    Lighting a garage..

Anyone recommend the best way to light a garage which has no electricity?

The cost of a generator is a little high so...

What i have come up with so far is to use a car battery and then have a 12v 20w LED floodlight running from it.. Id charge the battery using a car when it needed recharging..But one floodlight will give me a headache..

What about 6 102-smd LED headlights or 12v LED strips?

    Maybe 12v Cold Cathode lighting?

Get loads of extension leads and join them altogether from your house to the garage.

Funny you should say that, i did that for about 18 months, not sussposed to do that, rain, electrcity, fatal mix, but VIP members are entitled to do it, so i did.

                ON TOPIC:-

If your buying a battery buy a LEISURE battery NOT a car battery, as if left flat will kill a car battery, unless it's free or ?5 then differant matter.

If your just using it for parking then what ever you lay your hands on.

if your working in there then i would go for 3 of these

                YOU CAN FIND THEM CHEAPER

5 Meter White IP65 SMD3528 300LEDs DIY Decorative LED Fairy strip light UK STOCK | eBay

Assuming your working in their, each strip draws approx 300MA so for thick people like me, we assume you have 3 strips, so that's 1.5 amps per hour took out your battery.

Susspose your battery is 60AH call it 60,000MAH divided by 1500MA/H is no idea, that is how many contiunus hours on untill battery is dead flat.

Suggest you download a solar cell with a MINIMUM of 12 Watts - this is one amp o/p on good light
but do your homework, you can go for two 6 watts if it makes you feel better, fir one on the east side, one on the west, so it gets the sun as it rises and sinks.

Only came on here to rant on another thraed and just lost my cut and paste getting your ebay link, never mind, bye.

Cheers guys! I am gonna get a 12v deep cycle battery and 2x 5m 600 smd led strips. I will recharge it at home as i have a battery charger, i can keep the lights going if i need to when working on a car after the batery runs out, by using the cars battery itself

Guess this is MILES away from your home?

Charging from a car would be inefficent, yes for an emergency, for example, do remember, some time ago went robbing, ended up Gulf III with a 500 Watt inverter, across the battery with the Indian running, LONG extenshion lead and a 500 Watt flood light, yes it worked, but SO inefficent.

Also well worth painting the place white and/or kitchen foil on the roof.

                            OFF TOPIC:-

If your working in their in the winter, if you use gas heating, you can get LOTS of condensation.

can't you re-route the street lamps you paid for it in taxes, or even take roof of the garage, free daylight and rate free as minus roof

Seriously you can get strips of led lights from china for a few quid if you get the smd types there the brightest
