As already mentioned first "home" computer i had was Sinclair ZX81 but reading over this thread it's amazing how many of the others i owned too. From the ZX81 i progressed to the Commodore VIC20 which i think had 3.5K memory and had a colour display. Then nearly sure it was an Amstrad CPC464 with built in tape deck. Then had a beige Commodore 64 with loads of games. Then got an Amiga 500 and upgraded it with 512 memory module to make it a whopping 1 MEG. Things i remember from those early days in no particular order are:

Raster lines/screeching noises when games were loading followed by the title page/loading screen being drawn from top to bottom line by line.

Having to adjust tape heads with a precision screwdriver to try and get some games to load.

Forever taking joysticks back to the shop because they broke (normally because of joystick waggling sports games) or else taking them apart to tinker with microswitches.

Being able to copy loads of games onto a TDK audio tape then trying to find a particular game on the tape.

Reading Computer & Video Games magazine and others all the time.

Games like Chuckie Egg, Jet Set Willy, Turrican (superb) R-Type, Saboteur, Monty Mole, Commando, Wizzball, Shadow Of The Beast, Dizzy and loads of cheap Codemasters games from Easons for ?2.

My first computer was a BBC model B in 1981 that was what started me of with programming with BBC Basic. I then moved on to Qbasic with IBM computers then Visual Basic which I still use. I still have my BBC model B.
