Fine for using a mobile phone when driving.

On the 19th of Nov I was pulled over by the fuzz for using a mobile whilst driving.
The guy read me my rights and booked me,but he never had any slips left to give me a ticket and said they would send me one to my door.
I havent recieved anything through the door, and upon doing research online found that they have to issue you a N.I.P (Notice of Intended Prosicution) within 14 days or it is void.

Anyone got any info on what to do?,I am fully expecting it through the door, but really want to know if anyone knows or has had a similar situation, before I punch my fist in the air and celebrate.

im a motorcyclist and drivers on phones are a real danger.

If your stupid enough to use a mobile on the move , i'm surprised you didn't call them and ask for it !!

Just out of curiousity how many people does anyone know that has had an accident whilst using a mobile phone.
I don't doubt it happens, just how often it does. For me it's another money making con

You wouldnt think that if you had got a child who had been run over by a driver using a mobile phone.

Like i said i don't doubt it happens m8. One hand drinking a drink or smoking a cig , whats the difference. Just for the record. I'm not condoning it.

No i aint,but in the past a motorist has been fined for eating an apple while driving and feasting on a Kit Kat.

To be brutally honest, I have hands free, it was out of force of habit that I picked it up to my ear to answer the call.
I even kept the person on the phone so the copper could hear.

Its a lesson I will have learned anywyas, whether I get the points or dont.

Still,I thought by the way they stuck on the blue light and sped onto the other side of the road to catch me, that I had been on the ten most wanted list. They were more of a hazard than me.

There is a clampdown on road traffic offences just now,must be low on the budget or something?? since then I have actually seen a copper on the phone whilst driving.

I challenge anyone on here that drives and has a mobile, to honestly say they havent drove whilst on the phone, and before it was made illegal, did you used to think to yourself,ooh, this is really dangerous, i may run over someones kids??

Yeah, I reckon you have nowt to worry about.. as you say a NIP has to be delivered in 14 day, only exceptional circumstances when it can be extended, ie, if the car is a hire car etc works vehicle, so they need to trace the owner. As you say, you even talked to the fuzz, I imagine they got your name and addy there and then.
You are away, scot free.

I agree with you bulldog, and also dont condone it, but what can I say? I done it,therfor I deserve it.

Can see your point about being a money making scam too,wouldnt surprise me if the police or goverment had the patent for hands free devices,

No i dont use my phone whilest driving,if somone wants you you can phone them back when you stop.i suppose those people who drink and drive think the same as you.

i should add that it was a company vehicle, but they asked for my personal address and confirmed that over there walkie talkies to there office.

I phoned my boss today and nothing had arrived there either.

drink driving has never been legal though.

what about disabled drivers? who dont have the use of both arms or one arm, by reading your comments I could label you as someone who wouldnt agree with them driving?

Take it they are a danger to all our kids?

Last i heard was a kid i know who just turned 17 had his in his back pocket.
His dad phoned him and he messed around going too fast down a stretch of road thats dodgy at the best of times, took his eyes off the road for a couple of seconds and veered into oncomming at significant speed wiped out everyone else in the car with him and a few from the other car.

His funeral was messed up, other parents screaming and bawling at the dad for killing their kids, i figure his head would have been ****ed up enough by contributng to his own sons.

Ive had an accident myself too, looked down at the bloody thing, then looked up and noticed traffic had stopped, hit the brakes and they locked up on the wet road. wound up spitting airbag (those things bloody hurt) as i skidded into the rear end of the car in front.
No one was hurt, cars all got a bit dinged up but like i said everyone was ok.

There was also a flip round here a week ago, driver wound up on his roof, a mobile was "suspected" everyone was fine though, just a write off and backed up traffic.

A good few years back a driver who worked with my old boy (hes a haulage mechanic) ran over his own kid from using the phone. Just outside of Largs, this was well before the ban when all drivers kept a mobile in the cabs for status updates from the office. The guy understandibly went off his nut, ive not seen him in years but he wasnt coping so well last i saw.

So yeah, they do cause accidents, atleast enough to make me think the ban is worthwhile.
