One Andy Powell comes to mind...... hugely overlooked always in discussion forums, but admired within the industry and usually not surprisingly.... up there with the top dogs when guitarists reveal their A list players......

As a rocker I agree with everything that has been said but think classical as well. Julian Breem and John Williams are both extraordinary guitarists in the classical genre but who can deny the young lad that did this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8]YouTube - guitar[/ame]

On the heavier side of things I'd have to say Jeff Loomis from Nevermore. As for Hendrix and Clapton, I've never really got into Clapton so I'd have to say Hendrix.

                    Top 5:

                    Steve Vai
                    Jeff Loomis
                    Kirk Hammett (I like him!)
                    Brian May
                    Jerry Cantrell

Ive always loved Clapton. Dave Gilmour is amazing as well. As for Jimi, its too bad he died all young. Nobody like him and probably never will be. I cant imagine what he would have become.

Another one to add to the mix but not really well known. Patrick Rondat. I have 4 of his albums and he is almost fairly good with the good old six string

This track is one of the tame ones.
