Mines an 18 month contract Mate , i think BT have them by the balls , talk talk deny this , but i've challenged them to explain why it's taken 16 days to repair a fault , when BT said if i went back to them , i'd be reconnected in 24-48hrs !
I believe BT control the lines and exchanges , this isn't the 1st time i've left BT and isn't the 1st time i've had a long disconnection , the 1st time i left them and went to tiscali , all was well for 6 weeks and then disconnected for 12 WEEKS !

BT own the lines. Reason why all companys on a BT line say they can offer UPTO 20MB broadband. I have a friend on a BT on o2 (BT own as well) and his line always varys between 3 and 5 meg. Never over 5 meg. Although he pays for 8meg BB.

The only reason they can offer cheaper than BT is because the customer service is going to be crap and less avaliable. So the Price you pay for BB will obviously reflect on when you have problems.

The reason they can offer cheaper services, is because Openreach (Own the network and lines) charge each provider ?1 per month for the line rental, nothing more, nothing less.

You dont pay for 8mb, you pay for upto 8mb, or adsl max. O2 are one of the better providers, if the exchange has the ISP equipment inside it LLU then they can normally offer faster speeds. BT down own O2 either, they used to be partnered with them when it was cellnet, but that was years ago. O2 is now a seperate company, and owns BE and some other smaller ISPs.

Talk talk are The Carphone Warehouse, a Welsh company that is notorious for ripping off customers, and causing problems. They were originally a mobile phone shop, but all the network providers stopped supplying them as they were ripping people off, by changing contract details, not signing people upto the correct contract and stuff.

Also with regards to engineers. BT will tell you anything to get you back to them, and there is no guarantee that an engineer would be out within 48 hours, let alone fix the fault. The reason its taken so long is that if the fault is proven to be your equipment, then the ISP is charged ?120 for call out and ?99 per hour there, and equipment is charged on top. So the ISP will do everything possible to stop an engineer going unless its essential, and that is why it takes so long.

I used to be an openreach engineer, and worked in BT Wholesale who logged faults for ISPs, so have a good inside knowledge of it all.

Is o2 not the mobile network of BT when they thought it be a good idea to change names? Although not part of the BT chain now was it no decided to changed the network name and market it as much as they could to turn it into a large brand?

If it was then i think it means that really BT do own it but its a different company. No?

in fairness i have had talk talk for around 4 yrs now, no issues really and at ?21 a month for unlimited calls/broadband (4mb 5 min ago ) which includes ?11 for the BT wires im not complaining.

that said im considering the sky offer to get new digibox
