I don't think there is any argument that the comment was, and was meant to be, racist (as you describe it). if it should be take further? common sense, says no. but lets face it. the company can get rid of the white guy, and take someone on, at a lower wage, bargain. why do you think PC is so highly regarded in big firms?

I am a short balding redhead so imagine what I have gone through

The whole racist/religious issue is stupid but in the original quote of whfr I think that the black guy should have thought more about what he was saying in the first place as he was giving the white guy room to degrade him. I am not saying that he was totally in the wrong but given the history between the two he really should have kept his gob shut.

The white guy should also have kept his gob shut knowing that another complaint could come from his reply.

Both parties, no win situation. Both as daft as brushes. Both a stereotype of our shameful society.

It is a sad day when comments made in innocence can create a situation that can potentially end up in court.

sorry maybe im being naive but then again im from glasgow and have heard people called a lot worse. theres hardly a day goes by where i dont hear the words "hun" or "tim" referring to whether you support rangers or celtic - thats prob racist but hardly anyone bats an eyelid. i DO respect people no matter where they come from. i am very friendly with people in work no matter what colour, ethnic background, sexual orientation etc. im a lot more liberal minded than a lot of others i know.

i was just saying it as i see it. im sure many others have an opinion on this as like a lot of stuff on this forum far too many are afraid to speak their mind. its blatantly obvious those regular posters on the forum who dont post or give their opinions in threads like this which i find very sad.

the place i go to most for a meal is an indian and they are lovely people. i get my nails and eyebrows done by asian girls in a place in partick and again they cant do enough for you so please dont call me a racist.

I don't think you are naive Lainie...you are just a nice person and there are loads of nice people out there. It is just a few bad apples that see a slight difference in folk and pick on it...race...religion...size...I could go on.

Like you, I am from the Glasgow area and unfortunately you can't get away from the remarks that some folk make. I have fought beside my mate (who is black) with guys that insisted on fighting just because he was black (we were teens at the time).

Another of my mates tried to claim he was an honorary white man (strangely enough his name was White), this didn't help him either.

If people don't talk openly about their opinions it is usually because they feel uncomfortable about their own views which may taint them in others eyes given the PC era we live in.

In my eyes this is an admission of guilt in themselves. People who believe one way or another strong enough will say what they believe.

And I say now, I detest any form of "ism". We are all created equal (I am non religious) and should all be given the respect that we all deserve. If you are a prat then you are a prat...not a black prat or a Polish prat but just a prat!

there bigger problems in the world , than some one making a stupid or un thought out comment , we now in this country walk on eggs shells about saying the wrong thing as we can be seen in this lite or that ligth , and we will be held to account , ffs we are not under oath.
just live you life and treat guys how you want to be treated

ffs when the govement stop invading Muslim countries
killing many woman and children as to gain access to the oils , then I will change imho thats the bigest Racism

A complaint has been made, Which is being investigated. The two people involved have also been asked to attend a meeting. To which they can bring (union rep, another) To see if it can be resolved.

There's nothing that was said that is racist, it could have and probably had a racist tone to it but you can't find someone guilty because they thought
about commiting a crime but didn't!

So, following your logic here, you can be as verbally racist as you like as long as you're careful how you word it?
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

Come on why are people so touchy about what people say or do, people have become so scared to say or do anything without the worry of offending nowadays. most of the pc folk are white sitting about with nothing better to do than stir the sh#t.
