Just to explain how the DD payments are calculated & why looking at your payments to winter usage doesn't add up.

If you are paying ?40 per month for each, ?80 combined, you will be using ?480 on each over the year...?960 total.

But through the summer months you use a lot less gas & elec than through the winter months. So by the end of the summer you should have a large credit to help pay the higher winter usage.

Add to this any rewards for paying by DD. In the past this was never factored into the payments. But I know that npower did start to deduct the ?60 DD reward from the total expected usage from the elec account. This would make your elec payments ?35 instead of the original ?40.

The idea behind balancing over the year is to reduce any chance of a large bill at the end of the year. But price rises & changes in usage can totally ~~~~ this up. Most providers review accounts twice a year, but it's always best to check up yourself.

You might want to ring them and ask what meter they think you have. There have been mistakes recently with people / billing software getting imperial and metric meters mixed up. and so the readings are incorrect.

just noticed that my bill says:

                  Meter: 00935300

                  Gas Meter Advance 1090(e) 1425 - Units 335

                  335 units x factor 100 x correction factor 1.02264 = 34258.44

                  34258.44 x conversion factor 0.0283 = 969.51

                  969.51 cu meters x calorific value 39.2 / conversion factor 3.6 = 10556.88kWh

my meter is in cubic feet.. do the above calcs sound right..??

also from 1 Dec 10 to 1 Feb 11 it says i used 6855.88 kWh.. that seems a lot..??

                  Cheers

Meant to read mine, keep forgetting.

Run your heating for 1 hour only - take note of reading, then think, say 3 hours a night everynight for last 6 months, pick the bones out yourself.
