Car not insured? It could get clamped - then crushed
surely if the cars off the public highway and on private property they cant touch you- this has got to be wrong.

you were spotted by police, reported driving uninsured or got caught by one of the road side cameras
i think you would have to be spotted breaking the law first for this to apply
so say i lied to bobby "i dont use this car officer it is just parked up"
he says "ok good looking just make sure you dont drive in it its against the law"
i say "certainly officer i wouldnt dream of it "
then he ~~~~s off ne naw ne naw
i then think i will go to netto for some plantfood in my car
when im gone i get caught on speed camera/tax camera snd get grassed up by neighbour who says she has just seen me on mobile phone driving
i have then broke law so i belive technically they could possibly clamp my car to stop me doing it again whther car is on front or not
i belive though with my expertise as a hot shot philidelphia lawyer you would have to be caught commiting the crime for them to act they could not go onto a front drive and clamp cars for not being insured
because you are not commiting an offence you dont need insurance for private land

Its to do with the SORN and tax system i think, they wont clamp shit if its already SORN, but if its taxed then it "needs" to be insured along side it... or so im led to believe.

Seems to be correct. If it's not taxed it should have a SORN, in which case you're ok.
No tax or SORN then it's ?80 automatic penalty plus the option to clamp and remove or even crush depending on whether they think you're taking the piss.
Given the misery caused by uninsured drivers and the fact that we end up paying for it in our car insurance, it all seems a fair enough to me tbh.
Just to confirm that it is linked to the tax/SORN showing on the vehicle. But they will still have problems.
Car is taken off the road due to engine failiure, it still has 7 weeks tax left on it but the insurance has run out.
You can't claim a refund on tax unless there's more than 2 months remaining.
There's always a chance that the car will be fixed within that 7 weeks so you leave things as they are.
What happens then?
This is almost as bad as the 'plans' to introduce on the spot fines for not wearing a seatbelt & tail gating.
