UK riots: magistrates told 'ignore the rule book' and lock up looters

Magistrates have been told that they can ignore sentencing guidelines and hand down more draconian penalties to rioters and looters.

Courts are being advised that the scale of last week?s civil disobedience means that offences committed during the riots should be dealt with more harshly.

Magistrates appear to have heeded the message, as figures released by the Ministry of Justice last night disclosed that two in three people charged in connection with the riots and looting have been remanded in custody.

David Cameron yesterday pledged to turn around the lives of 120,000 dysfunctional families, despite criticism from Ed Miliband, the Labour leader, that he was resorting to ?gimmicks.

6 months for stealing a bottle of water and MPs allowed to pay ?16000 expense fiddles back and then carry on as if nothing happened, and Judges ignoring the rule of law ACT, it?s diabolical.

So what leason our children?s going to learn?

The rule book should have been ripped up years ago. Punishments for the vast majority of crimes are an absolute joke. If you want an eye opener go to any magistrates courts and sit through a few cases. I've had the pleasure of sitting through four days of the shi~+ whilst fighting traffic offences.

Over 90% of the people getting charged were kids most of whom had too many previous offences to list. They'd turn up as if they've just got out of bed and completely ignore the Magistrate. I sat there while some were getting done for assault, theft, drunk and disorderly etc and the majority were getting either admonished or ?20 fines then arguing that they are already paying ?4 per week from their benefits for previous offences so can only pay an additional 50p per week and the Magistrates were agreeing.

When I paid my fine to the Clerk I asked him if these fines were normal and he said "The majority don't pay them anyway and nothing happens" Locking them up does no good as they just mingle with their own kind of scum. It's the one area I thnk they should go backwards and bring in the Birch. Whip the shi+s then throw them out into the street. The punishment is instant, it hurts and there's no fears of them making contacts in the nick.

Agree with Snowy the book should have been ripped up years ago. Our law seriously needs to sit down go through the law book and question are the sentenses right for the crime commited? Many are simply not.

Cameron is all talk, Can I see him making a difference with these dysfunctional families? No. What is his plans through more tax payers money at them with no end result.

Also every MP that stole from expenses should have been locked up if it was anyone of us it would have been a different story all together. Are we not all human? The law and punishment should apply to us all, our status in life should count for nothing.

Got to admit Labour screwed it ten times as much as Maggie ever did. Labour has had achip on it's shoulder about Maggie since she got in first with the ideas of privatising companies to turn them into profitable companies, bringing billions to the economy and allowing labour to spend it all buying votes and blaming the Conservatives for laying off the working class.

I may be wrong but I'm sure that Labour spent years saying companies should be nationalised whilst in oposition yet once they were in power just happened to forget that bit. They also signed billions away to the EU and sold our souls on Human Rights for the least deserving.

all David Cameron is interested in is make cuts and more cuts. Why does he not start making work, building new roads, hospitals, prisons, schools, investing more in to new business opporunities. This would increase jobs and bring this country out of the state its in. Other countries are doing this and they are starting to get there. Cameron does not have a clue.
