If you as you say, there might be no 3pm games in Europe, that would go against the whole ethic of what the Premier League is trying to acheive in terms of marketing their product to a global audience.
If the 3pm's stopped in Europe, then the Premier League would lose at lot of revenue, not just the TV rights but all kinds of sales, such as shirts or anything for that matter.
Their idea is to sell their product to the world & by stopping 3pm games being broadcast anywhere in Europe, they are
going against their own marketing campaign.
There is no way they would stop the 3pm games being broacast in Europe, not a chance of it.Comment

It will all boil down to money. The FA will try and milk as much money out of as many Broadcasters as possible just the same as the broadcasting company's will try and make as much as possible out of the man on the street.I can see Sky trying to impose more regulations on who the FA sell the rights to as its Sky who pay them the most money.Either that or they wont bid as much as usual unless they buy the whole european rights to the premier league then Sky can decide what company in what country gets what.
Thats a lot of whats in that last bit.Comment

Lets face it guys, if European satellite broadcasting becomes a free, open market, there is no way the big boys would put up with that. You really also have to look beyond the 3pm footy aspect too. There are big Hollywood films, glossy American TV series, just days after the states, and don't Real Madrid and Barcelona sell their own TV rights? let alone boxing, wrestling, golf and not forgetting ~~~~ that is shown on some broadcasters that would be illegal in other countries.
Do you think MGM, Sony and all the other studios who sell their films on a country by country basis would be happy to let you and I pick and choose the cheapest option? I would think Sky pay more for a film or Lost, Prison Break etc than, hmm, Albania or Slovakia (I could be wrong).
No, they would not.
Now, don't even get me going with the advertisers. What does a 30 second half time ad for man u vs. Liverpool cost on Sky? what would an ad in Albania on Tring be? Nike, Sony, Coke, Budweiser know there demographics, and Sky, Nova etc know they can charge big for specific markets. Advertisers are not going to pay Sky ?100,000 for that 30 second half time ad when we are all off watching Tring. There is more to satellite TV than me and you sat getting the cheap stream.
Yep, I know, European law cocks a snoop to big companies etc, but remember, these are the guys who banned bananas for being too bent, and sue butchers and green grocers for selling in pounds an oz.Comment

it would be great for all ,if miss murphy case was won, most of you pay sly ?35 to ?70 a month and then go and watch it in a pub, they charge pubs between ?500 to ?1200 a month depending how busy your pub is,sly,s been ripping people for years and are getting better at it each year, you get a sports channel you think great footy,boxing,cricket,rugby,F1, the answer is NO,PAY MORE ,?20 on the night for boxing which could last 30 seconds and starts at 3.00 am,and if you want it in HD pay another ?10, all i can say is thanks to all the clever people, who make cams, cards ,softcams and all those nice servers. GOOD ON YOU MISS MURPHY.Comment

I think everybody is speculating, this is not a Sky issue they want to show 3pm kickoffs but the PL will not allow based on crowd attendance which argument is now prove not true. The PL and Sky will make more money on this than ever before and they will have plans already in place.
1. Each club will negotiate with the PL and broadcaster to show their games on their own channel i.e MU ?20 per month x 200 million subscribers! shared between each team 75% MU 25% opposition and so on for each match and the same for the likes of Chelski, L'pool channels. Result - happy fans all round and super rich clubs and millions more rev for the PL and Sky. Pubs will not pay the excessive price any more so a different model will be made for the club of their choice or number of club packages.
2. Compete with other card providers in the EU and at home, Sky will come along and say buy our PL package at ?20 pm rather than some EU provider.Keep calm carry on.

There is a possible loophole that will end up going to court again I reckon.
Early information about the ruling indicates that it is not illegal to buy the foreign satellite equipment and use it in this country, however, it does state that you cannot show the Premier League badge without the permission. The broadcasting of the premier league badge / logo without the permission would be in breach of their copyright.
Then the next court case will happen. Does the Premier League take the pub landlord to court or the satellite provider? Effectively it is the providers responsibility to ensure that all copyrights are obtained - and b subscribing to a TV service that is essentially what you are doing, purchasing copyright info.
This will roll and roll and the solicitors will win. We could also lose out as a lot of pubs will now start installing systems left right and centre. They will also start using C/S - which again is not illegal (as long as you are not selling the service) - just against T&C's. Providers such as SLY could start to really up their card encryption systems which will make it harder for us to view encrypted channels using other methods.Comment

well done karen murphy this is great news for pub landlords
and will help bring down the huge overheads that sly burden
them with, my local landlord phoned me today to come and put him a system in for him and is terminating his sly contract, even if the premier league inforce rules and t&cs to other providers this wont happen overnight, so if landlords even get a few months out of it they have nothing to lose.
what happens next is going to be very interesting and could open some new doors for us to explore.....BJ1

There is also a way round this logo business, software that can superimpose black patches over the logo also to cancel out the copy right infringement just like on the telly on advertising - fight fire with fire. Also I am sure the logo business is not in keeping with the EU ruling for them to broadcast exclusive images in another EU country, i am sure other FA's will have something to say.Last edited by batman44; 4 October, 2011, 20:33.Keep calm carry on.

i think this is exactly the verdict that murdoch wanted
he has made money off of showing the big matches live,,he will now buy out any other broadcaster and start showing multiple games at multiple times across the weekend on other sky channels
i dont think this a victory at all for the consumer,,i really do hope im wrong,,the koont needs stringing up,but something inside me is telling me that this is exactly what he wanted to happenThe control of information is the consolidation of power

On the subject of the logos etc,
If the overseas tv companies want to keep their customers, they can simply put their own logos on the screen & not
have to use the Premeir League ones.
Most do it now already.
So therefore removing the copyright as the Prem League logos are not on display.Comment
