I suspect many people, including myself, think it was a very bad idea to join in the first place but now that we've been tied to the European economy and way of doing things for so long we'd almost certainly face an extended period of hardship if we were to exit.
I think this whole subject needs some very hard thought as to consequences. If we were to exit then how would the UK, as a country, proceed ?
Who exactly would we trade with ?
Its easy to say, the rest of the world, but who exactly would be interested. Very few countries could afford British goods, we just aren't competative in any manufacturing sector. So what have we got to offer ?
Of course i'm sure there would be some continued trade with Europe, thats inevitable, but it would be nowhere near as much as now. What happens to our balance of payments ?. How do we stop the Pound from collapsing as a result ?
I'm not trying to be pro-Europe here, just trying to think things through in a more logical manner and perhaps get a more cool-headed discussion started.

. think this is the only reason were still in the eu is we're cheap on goods at the minute but on the other hand our imports are killing us , we can't keep paying out 18 million a week and nothing back it's madness ,
