not to mention this whole "work-less generation" thing, was deliberately set up by Maggi.
apparently high unemployment was "a price worth paying".
if you have high unemployment, to ensure lower wages.
someone has to pay the bill.
and it aint the company's that benefit, who pay.
the question has to be asked.
why have we let wages get so low, means tested benefits, work out higher than wages?
as usual they are fixing the wrong problem.
well they would!
otherwise they might have to pay a little extra.
and we cant have that, can we?Last edited by firemouth; 5 November, 2012, 09:59.Comment

That's what a always found strange with the Tories, a remember my Dad telling me to watch unemployment soar when Thatcher got in.
It did seem business as usual for them which was to throw short term measures at long term problems, that led to high unemployment as industrial power was replaced by a retail based economy which imo is much more unstable, short term and bloody risky.
It seems the Tories are comfortable with high unemployment, so a suppose the only logical thing to do is attack benefits in their minds.
The proper way to do it would be a fairer deal for low earning employed as you pointed out but God forbid the average worker may earn more.
A don't think its a case of wanting to stay on benefits, yes there are always people who don't want to work but the majority just want a fairer deal.
We have seen some of the failed attempts so far with the "stack shelves at Tesco for nothing" scheme which if it worked was the starting point for many more stupid schemes.
After a bit of online research tells me that most other companies dropped the scheme like a hot brick when it hit the media, Tesco instantly altered the scheme after a massive online protest.
Later it was revealed that Tesco was also employing immigrants who were working for pennies, Tesco is now reporting massive losses as a direct result of bad publicity.
In a way i am happy to see Tesco taking a hammering, billions in profit but still wanting more, every little bit of slave labour helps unless the public start ignoring your stupid store and go somewhere else, like i did.
Then the Tories pumped millions to their little pals and setup private back to work schemes, that fell on its arse as well.
One famous company had a ratio of 1/10 found a job, trouble is the Jobcentre has a ratio of 4/10 without trying, how the hell did that happen.
Is this the Tory way of tackling high unemployment, make major cuts that the private sector will cover (pmsl) and introduce slave labour schemes to bring down the numbers..
A swear that they just get worse as time goes on........

benefits should be linked to national insurance contributions. obv exceptions to the rules re disabled people etc.
kids should not be allowed to leave education imo until they can read and write. my other half works with 16-18 yr olds and the vast majority cannot read and write and have no intention of learning as they dont want to work and have no ambition etc.
so many parents kick their kids out when their ctc and cb stops and then these kids get housing benefit for private lets - thats fundamentally wrong
the whole system is ****ed and needs drastically changing but so do many people who think they have a right to live on benefits all their lifes. if they dont wanna work fine but dont pay them to sit on their arses all day doing **** all.
i know someone who is now 72. she has never worked a single day in her life. had 5 kids to 4 different men 40 odd yrs ago. she has had diabetes for a few years now but apart from that there is **** all wrong with her. she used to turn up for appointments a day early or a day late deliberately and when asked questions she does not answer she just sits there. we worked it out that during her life she has had over ?250,000 in benefits and not paid a single penny into the system.
believe me there are thousands and thousands like her.
the amount of people that phone for crisis loans in december is more than the other 11 months in the year - wonder why but they are in for a shock when that ends next year.sigpic

?250,000 on benefit,, a have to admit am pretty shocked at that and like you said, there is a lot more like it.
The only problem that a have is usually when the Tories start reforming things they tend to hit a lot of innocent people but a agree that something has to be done..."Windows - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition."Comment

Your not wrong lainie and the country is full of them, they are the ones alway moaning about THEIR money not turning up and how do they expect me to feed my five kids on that pittance?benefits should be linked to national insurance contributions. obv exceptions to the rules re disabled people etc.

its easy to play the system and get all sorts but the vast majority are decent people
but when the gap from 40 hour working wage to none working wage equates to about ?15 a week there are not too many people who would go to work for ?15 a week
and this is what needs addressing there is no incentive to work for low income earners
but how do you address it??Comment

1) No what i mean is, you don't tax your car, bloke from dvla.gov.uk
comes and clamps it. Next day man from NCP.co.uk uploads it
to their private companys compound.
Now say your car gets clamped - no tax - pay over phone - can you
drop it off at ncp.co.uk fair enough. But that to me is a monopoly
on car compounds

gas, electric, etc etc.
NOT SURE IF ON OR OFF TOPIC:-
So, this Mr Smith - so if he gets rid of these spoungers, tells the woman
in above post to naff off.
Could the money saved then help pay for CHEAPER gas, electric internet etc etc?

Essential and basic utilities, gas, water, power etc - those things needed to exist in the modern ages should never have been in private hands. We have the French owning most of the electricity generated in the UK, it's never a good thing to have foreign companies control your infrastructure - even more so the French.1)

The money isn't really saved, it's generally spent on paying for those 'extra's that weren't included in any contracts that were negotiated. Even if there were no unemployed your overall tax levels wouldn't go down, the MP's would be using it to pay for more expenses.Last edited by GastonJ; 12 November, 2012, 15:20.My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far

@ red its not ?15 a week and don't let anyone that doesn't work fool you. people that don't work seem to forget they get full housing and council tax benefit (yes they ARE benefits). there's a misconception that receiving benefits only relates to receiving monetary amounts and that's not the case. if on a sickness related benefit could get return to work credit and working tax credit if they take on a new job that is a low wage(under ?13000) i think it is. they prob also have had community care grants/budgeting loans to furnish their most likely private rent.
theres prob loads on here that dont work but prob not honest enough to reveal what they get. it does seem to be the "workers" that reply to threads re benefits.sigpic

another thread i have had to either clean up or delete recently... TBH i am getting fed up with the same old members ruining threads.
Don't post in a thread to have a go at anyone, take part in the subject matter in question.. If you don't have a valid point to make or something to add that's relevant then don't post..Comment
