Girls of 13 given birth control jab at school without parents? knowledge

Schoolgirls as young as 13 are being given contraceptive injections and implants during lunch-breaks without their parents? knowledge.

School nurses have given implants or jabs to girls aged between 13 and 16 more than 900 times in the past two years, a survey by The Daily Telegraph has found. Girls aged 13 have been given contraceptive jabs and implants on more than 20 occasions.

A further 7,400 girls aged 15 and under have been given contraceptive injections or implants at family planning clinics.

Under the patient confidentiality rules, nurses are banned from seeking the permission of parents beforehand, or even informing them afterwards, without the pupil?s permission.

Anthony Seldon, the master of Wellington College, said: ?I think that sexual intercourse is the very highest and most mature spiritual relationship that can exist between two human beings.

    Further news...

A spokesman for NHS Bristol, which oversees the scheme, said there was no requirement for either nurses or pupils to seek parent?s permission ?due to the confidentiality of the service?.

I would call this a communist way to treat humans!!!

Is this also a defence for such people as Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter!
    Get real...these are children.
The schools should not be so arrogant as to mess with children's lives and bodies without first consulting the parents.

If girls are not allowed to have sex under the legal age limit, a 13 year old is under the age legal limit so why give them contraceptive doesn?t makes sense?.

But that doesn't stop girls from having sex, does it.

These jabs are not forced on pupils, they are offered on an open door policy.

They could walk into tesco & buy condoms if they wanted to. Does that have to be reported to their parents? No.

A lot of kids don't have good relationships with their parents/parent. This scheme gives them a chance to make their own decisions about their future, without the arguments.

Did you tell your parents when you became sexually active? I didn't.

so if a teenage girl is sexually active, a health professional should ignore this fact and allow another teenage pregnancy to happen, continuing our Jeremy Kyle society.

If you want to blame anyone then point the finger at the useless parents who don't take an interest in there kids and who they associate with, or what time they roll in at night,

there is a good reason for the confidentiality laws, would you want your private info passed on to all and sundry, including government agencies. you can't have it both ways, privacy or open to all.
and just because these girls are young teenagers, they should still be entitled to the same privacy protection as everyone else.

i would be in favour with this as many years ago 2 distant cousins became pregnant at the age of 15,but "mum we wanted to see what the fuss was",the fun that night when she said to her mum i am pregnant and the other daughter said so am i! sex can happen and at any age.being responsible for your actions takes guts.

If under the age limit then he or she has committed an offence and should be charged under the law full stop, you can not have the law on one side and encourage the younger generation to go and have a sex because you have given contraceptive.
