Why? do you think they'd actually do it? Do you think the greedy in society wouldn't just vote them back in again. This is "The 80's Revisited" only the damage make the misery last longer.

Are you sure? I seem to recall my daughter was around late 15 or early 16 when that happened so 8 or so years ago. I couldn't be bothered to fill out the thick nosy pamphlet to get no money, so I just binned it.

Reading this thread i'm in a minority here, but i'm all for any kind of system that stops the unemployed, people on benefits etc from spending their money in pubs, on cigarettes etc etc, a voucher system is not infallible, but i bet my local wetherspoons won't be allowed to accept them.

Pees me right off to walk round my town centre and see these people in the local pubs, or usually stood outside smoking, and this is every day ffs.

I live alone and go out to work everyday, the only discount i get is 25% off my council tax, every week is a struggle to pay bills and survive, i feel like i'm existing, not living.

I'm sorry if my opinion upsets people and flame me if you like but this is my honest opinion of Britain today.

Doesn't upset me in the slightest. If the government was interested in anyone but the wealthiest in society then yours would be a happier lot, as would many others. However this government isn't, and derives much pleasure driving a wedge between people - "keep the enemy divided and they be at each others throats rather than yours" seems to be the name of the game, and the Tories play it so well.

Yes there are people who take the pi$$ out of benefits, but not all 3, or 6, million or however many they are. You can't punish the many for the few. That's like arresting everyone in Manchester because "they have a lot of criminals in Manchester so may as well lock 'em all up" save any crimes being committed.

By all means punish the idiots, but not those who are trying to help themselves.

Hitting the freeloaders is fine with me mate but it also hits the poor sods who are experiencing unemployment for the first time.
A few years back i had a short spell unemployed and it was awful, a got "no" help at all, it felt like us vs them kinda mentality.
A never felt so low, i was skint but more important i felt like a nobody, my point is if you beat genuine people down anymore then chances are more damage will be done.
The Tories only care about figures, they couldn't care less about people and their policies are geared for short term gain.
Most people who are for these changes have probably never experienced unemployment recently, am sure they would change their tune when they are flat on their arse and treated like sh** by a Government that couldn't care less..

Totally agree with you mate, i know not all people who find themselves unemployed are the same, it's the perennial cheats i would like to see targeted, as hard as it would be to target just them.

if they scrapped the second flat / house for the members of parliament, and put them in hotels, they would save a fortune, and create a lot of jobs in the hotel business etc, but we know they wont do that, they need them second homes for the seedy goings on they get up too. the libs have burnt their bridges for sure, the people who cause these ferk ups are not the everyday man in the street, its them rich bankers when they screwed up, they sailed of into the sunset with a mega load of money.

Was talking to a fish named Wanda the other day, was saying that in Emerica they make the fat unemployed do 'random drugs testing' - no random drugs testing, no money

This information is from a fish called Wanda so might not be 100% accurate.

Which drugs do they get to test? And do the drugs test out ok, free lab rats using the unemployed, easy way to get the unemployment queue down - I think that's been tried before

After posting my post i got a PM from a team leader in a pork pie factory stating that if the random drugs testing fails then there will be fat unemployed people belly flopping supermarkets and chipshops to get there fix.

Lainie, I thought you'd like ma comment ha!. Hey, I still think your wrong, but maybe you can help..

Here's some figures I caught during a TV Interview between Ian Duncan Smith and Andrew Neil, around 2010......

                          Benefits

Tax Credits ?28 Billion, Housing Benefit ?21.2B, DLA ?12B, Child Benefit ?11B, Incapacity Benefit ?8B, Pensioner Credit ?8B, Income Support ?7B, JSA ?5B, Attendance Allowance ?5B, CTB ?5B, Fuel Allowance Payment ?3B, Maternity Allowance ?2B, Carer's Allowance ?1.6B, Severe Disability Allowance ?1B.

What I'm saying is... the unemployed are constantly getting blamed for high welfare benefits... but if you look at JSA, the benefit representing full unemployment, it's only ?5B.

Maybe you could find out for me, what proportion of benefits is paid to those in work and those of whom are not in work(of working age and fit to work)

Working people do get HB & CTB... and also tax credits. I have a friend who has 3 children and only does 16 hours or so per week. Ok a bit reduced HB & CTB, but still receives tax credits... I don't think this situation makes much difference to the welfare bill.

It's being said that there is more people than ever in part-time jobs, so my thoughts is how much benefit is getting paid to the under-employed, those families who perhaps need more hours work to match the income level needed as set by government. The ideal situation is for people in work not to depend on means-tested in-work benefits. This only subsidises employers.

Well, I heard about this... it would only make sense if the government were planning on making job centre staff redundant. Sensible move, as it would do away with claimants having to sign on fortnightly and for job centre staff to look up computer for job, and then to say to client "computer says no"
