One million people who are capable of work are ?stuck? on benefits, Iain Duncan Smith will disclose on Wednesday.
The Work and Pensions Secretary will release figures showing how many people are long-term claimants of unemployment benefit and other welfare payments.
The statistics are likely to add to a Coalition row over the growing cost of social security payments, which economists say is hampering efforts to reduce the deficit.
It could also add to tensions within Labour over how to deal with the growing benefit budget.
Mr Duncan Smith will use the report to highlight progress on getting more long-term claimants into employment, often using companies that help place people into work placements or training

I'd never have guessed, it must have come as a shock to the million of them and the other unemployed millions that he fails to mention. Bet they didn't realise that they were capable of work until that moronic sack of manure pointed out the obvious. I await the formation of companies (paid for by taxpayers) to invent jobs and work schemes that don't work. What his government could do is invest properly instead of pandering to their supporters and the Daily Mail readers. I'm really shocked that in the biggest downturn that we have people without work who want to work.......
