You can only tax a car online if it's already registered in your name, if you only just bought it you'll have the green part of the v5 and will have to tax it at the post office that's closed until Monday. Another badly thought out piece of legislation by a bunch of tw@'s who on reflection would make very bad second hand car salesmen.

I think it’s better for the poor people because you can get tax on direct debit, means you pay as you go and when you sell car you just inform your bank to stop payments to dvla one happy customer…

Yes and they'll be charging more for paying your tax that way as well, it's just a cynical way to make more money of those that can't afford to pay 6 months or a year up front *shrug*

GJ you got a post office nearby? you can tax it at on a Monday?
In Ifred county we need a car to go to the nearest post office, I think the regular bus service is about one a week here!
Then when you get there you would have to queue for about two hours with all the OAP and rest

You can still go to the post office to buy tax just like before..

If you have "a" v5 you can take your part with you and tax it..

Buying a used car fae a local garage could get you lifted.. as it wont be taxed as more than likely been sat on forecourt fae 9 month...

The solution is simple just clone your MP or councillor plate then your exempt from plate reconnection for mot,tax, insurance, speeding, free parking and drive in bus lanes
IMO their numbers will be on an exclusion list

Why on earth would they wan to do that, too sensible, and very noticeable. It would mean that the government would actually have to spend that tax on roads and road repairs instead of spending 2 billion and pocketing the other 38 billion they collected. Even if they did they'd still have to find some means of taxing the cash cow called the motorists just to make themselves feel better. I'm also sure that the police would object on the grounds that they'd no longer have a valid reason to randomly stop motorists to ask them if they're late as they write out invoices for minor offences such as eating an apple while driving.

Cost on fuel is not workable, most will start using electric cars or use red diesel and tax on trucks are more them cars, if they had to pay the same amount as cars our govt will go bust…..
