Flooding in Littleborough, Rochdale
Traffic wardens have prompted fury by slapping parking tickets on the cars of Rochdale flood victims.
Town hall bosses have hurriedly waived the ?disgraceful? fines in the wake of Boxing Day?s deluge.
One witness told the M.E.N. he had been ?shocked? while in Littleborough yesterday to see tickets being put on cars and vans in parking bays just yards from engineers restoring power to homes and clearing away flood-damaged posessions.
Local newsfeed Littleborough Local had tweeted: ?It is disgraceful that @RochdaleCouncil parking enforcement officers issued tickets to flood victims and volunteers. #dotherightthing.?
Not long afterwards the council tweeted: ?Any car parking tickets issued in flood affected areas will be cancelled.?
Unimpressed followers gave the the message short shrift, however, bombarding the council with angry tweets.
Emma Hildreth replied: ?Why did they issue them in the first place??
Phil Watson wrote: ?So tickets had been issued on cars that were flooded? What kind of mindless drone do you employ??
Another Twitter user demanded an apology as well as the cancellations.
Grace Kelly tweeted: ?You seriously need to address your parking attendants,? while Charing Cross Brooks replied: ?I should bloody think so.?
