'Disgraceful' parking wardens slap tickets on cars of Rochdale flood victims

    Flooding in Littleborough, Rochdale

Traffic wardens have prompted fury by slapping parking tickets on the cars of Rochdale flood victims.

Town hall bosses have hurriedly waived the ?disgraceful? fines in the wake of Boxing Day?s deluge.

One witness told the M.E.N. he had been ?shocked? while in Littleborough yesterday to see tickets being put on cars and vans in parking bays just yards from engineers restoring power to homes and clearing away flood-damaged posessions.

Local newsfeed Littleborough Local had tweeted: ?It is disgraceful that @RochdaleCouncil parking enforcement officers issued tickets to flood victims and volunteers. #dotherightthing.?

Not long afterwards the council tweeted: ?Any car parking tickets issued in flood affected areas will be cancelled.?

Unimpressed followers gave the the message short shrift, however, bombarding the council with angry tweets.

Emma Hildreth replied: ?Why did they issue them in the first place??

Phil Watson wrote: ?So tickets had been issued on cars that were flooded? What kind of mindless drone do you employ??

Another Twitter user demanded an apology as well as the cancellations.

Grace Kelly tweeted: ?You seriously need to address your parking attendants,? while Charing Cross Brooks replied: ?I should bloody think so.?

Bet it's my ISP running the fibre in, instead of installing fibre in the city for the rest of the mere mortals.

As for the parking attendants it takes dedication to don the scuba gear, write and issue parking tickets underwater. I wonder if they use a pencil to write it out, and how do they get their hand inside the plastic bag to write the ticket without water getting in the bag. One of life's new mysteries Very dedicated bunch of folk who will no doubt be getting their PRP payments this year.

The law says yellow line has to be visible on the road for traffic wardens to slap ticket, they have been caught on camera scraping snow from double yellow lines so they could slap tickets on parked cars, but ffs how did they manage to see double yellow lines in deep water and they need the photo evidence I suppose they may have drained the street slap the tickets then fill with water again.

Underwater cameras and good eyesight. Just because the driver didn't look hard enough is no excuse.

Ignorance is no defense when it comes to the law Often quoted phrase. If you leave your car on double yellows and the place floods the double yellows are still there, the water won't wash them away.

Only if he can produce God, and God pleads guilty and has the cash to pay the fine.

GastonJ mate an Act of God It doesn’t matter if some one believes in god or not even the insurance companies refuses to pay.

An event that directly and exclusively results from the occurrence of natural causes that could not have been prevented by the exercise of foresight or caution; an inevitable accident.

Courts have recognized various events as acts of God—tornadoes, earthquakes, death, extraordinarily high tides, violent winds, and floods.

At times disputes arise as to whether a violent storm or other disaster was an act of God (and therefore exempt from a claim) or a foreseeable natural event. God knows the answer!
