I thought the audience last night were a farce, and so was most of the panel, did anyone else notice last night how Straw skirted around the immigration issue and went into politician mode of not giving a simple straight answer even when pressed hard for one - and yet at the end of the night he was more forthcoming than he'd ever been all evening when he was slagging off the BNP.

Nick Griffin was if nothing else honest last night at least when he said "you cannot trust any politician!" and those words are true....he'll gain votes off the back of that show because it was a witch hunt and he did show at least some honesty and that's one thing people do want from their politicians but never get, honesty.

You'll also find that there's lots of people out there who voted for the BNP who are decent, law abiding people who are certainly not racist thugs - in fact you'd probably be surprised by the types of people who are voting for the BNP because they feel boxed in. Another thing is that some people are guilty of not seeing what doesn't affect them. Hence the BNP's growth to prominence in the last couple of years in spite of the racist deal.

Whilst not liking Nick Griffin & the BNP i don't think he was given
a fair crack of the whip last night. That was no normal edition of
Question time, it was the 5 other panelist & audience against 1.
We all knew what he stood for before he was invited on the show. I can't help thinking how Q.T was conducted with none
of the usual debating that Griffin gained more support than lost.

BNP member proximity search - October 2009 update

                A web based version

Griffin just laughs at any question put forward to him when asked. A jewish person asked him what do you think of the holocaust and he laughed! He also completely took the Quran out of context. In many ways you can say that Nick Griffin has the same ideas as Hitler.

Also, I laugh at their lack of knowledge on economics, though I wouldnt really be laughing as hed screw us all over and the UK would be sanctioned especially as its a rich country.

According to his site, they simply plan to print off more money as the "bank of England can do it" which would cause inflation and even hyperinflation as was the state of Germany who were worse in poverty in the 30s as Zimbabwe is today!

They also want to pull out of the EU altogether. I'd agree if someone said we dont want the euro, however if you pull out of the EU from country to country you'd have to pay import tax and no doubt we'd still be paying VAT. I sent a mobile phone abroad with the highest bidder in Slovakia and the second highest bidder in India. I thought thank goodness that Slovakia is in the EU as theres no complications involved about money. Now, imagine this for businesses selling abroad on a regular basis. It would simply be chaos. By pulling out of the EU, we are making trade barriers, instead of breaking them which is ideally what the entire world wants so that we can break free from the clutches of the global recession

I agree completely there mate, that's one thing I hold dear about this place and what makes it truly special is that you're allowed to have an opinion without being personally attacked for it by some hypocrite.

Or in other words common decency and respect amongst people is the most important value here before anything else, which is 100% correct. And my memory might be hazy but I do believe that's what this whole site was founded upon. Respecting people.

You should see certain other sites where any thread about the BNP quickly turns into a witch hunt before it even gets started simply because people show each other zero respect. Ironically much like the QT last night. Whether you agree with the BNP or not or people that support or vote them, it's all about respect. Because without that you might as well knife each other after you've drawn the battle line....as this thread proves thus far it works much better when people are respectful of each other and their opinions and nothing has to automatically be a witch hunt. So I'd like to applaud (again!) the decorum of this place too. Fantastic stuff!

It should have been just a normal question time program. Griffin should have been answering questions about the economy etc. I don't like Griffin or his mob or the other ones of similar nature who pose as Conservatives.

As a nuetral, last night looked to be a set up with both audience and panel chosen because of their stance against Griffin. Let the voters decide at election time, don't try and influence us in this way. They probably switched a lot of swayers to the BNP.

I noticed that too, they went out of their way to make it about race and focusing on Griffin and the BNP instead of talking about the real issues this country is facing and how the political parties would attempt to resolve these issues if elected, but instead of that we had a poor showing all round last night from everybody concerned. Like I said QT last night was nothing more than a witch hunt plain and simple. And Labour predictably used it to try and get people to lose focus and look the other way.

I admire the BBC for letting the program go ahead.

Like others have said he IS an MP and has every right to be there.

I'm afraid I agree with Griffins view of the show, the rules had changed simply because HE was there representing his party. Someone said earlier that David Dimbleby would normally take no nonsense from the audience nor panel members, but last night what happened to his normal refereeing skills?

It was a setup and Griffin had balls of ~~~~ing steel even being there in the 1st place.

I'm not a BNP supporter BTW, Skin Head thugs are not my cup of tea, just stating my opinion on the way the BBC handled the show.

                              Well said !

He was jeered at for "Changing his mind" over certain things -- we all do that occasionally .............

I'd have been interested to hear what he thought of the Postal Strike for example -- and the state of Britain's Economy.

I wonder where they got the Audience from -- didn't seem like a random sample to me.

He reminded me that I'm a Member of the Non Existant British Empire.....
