    Well therein lies the problem really.

    The UK government doesn't pay for the carbon released as a result of the journey - doesn't cost the government, why should it care
    The UK has slaughtered it's own manufacturing industry - doesn't cost the government, why should it care
    People will pay VAT on the purchase of those socks - the government makes money, why should it care
    The government makes money from green taxes paid by you Joe public for that journey, doesn't cost the government, they make money for nothing, why should it care
    If the carbon footprint goes up, you pay more tax to the government, why should it care

    Do the government care if it puts HJ Hall out of business really? I think not. Just another manufacturing company that wasn't competitive compared to China.
