Virgin Media looks to fast future

Virgin Media has said it is "crunch time" for broadband as it gears up to offer speeds of up to 400Mbps (megabits per second).

Virgin Media's director of broadband Jon James said 100Mbps would be available by the end of the year.

And the company has 400Mbps-ready modems and routers in the pipeline.

Virgin Media hopes to extend its network to reach out to another million customers, using overhead cables.

400Mbps data transfer is fast enough to download an album in around a second, or a high-definition movie in around two minutes.

Whates does it matter, the goverment keep saying "speed kills"

As long as DK loads in less than 10 seconds pointless.

Within reason no matter what speed your intrenet is is by the time you have finished a 'quick look' 2hrs later on DK your file has downloaded

So I can download a HD movie in 2 minutes, then get a letter a few weeks later demanding ?20,000 for illegal downloads.... Get that lovely speed cut off without a trail & still have to pay the contract out while doin' time at her majesties pleasure as I don't have the money to pay the demand.
