Lets be honest, he was pretty poor at the world cup.. not as poor as Rooney, Torres, Drogba and other so called world class players.. but still poor.
He's been compared to Maradona, but has a long way to go if he's going to emulate his (on-field) success.
After Messi tore Arsenal apart last year, Souness said he was the best player that he has EVER seen.. A bit over the top imo.
Personally i don't think he's even the best player this century.. that goes to Zizou.
But Messi has the potential to become even better than him.. whether he does or not is another thing.

people might think im daft but i think ronaldo not that fat brazil one has more to his game and is overall the better player of the 2 personally

messi is the more skillfull with the ball at his feet its stuck like glue at times but overall though ronaldo has good skill not as good but he has pace and power superb aeriel ability and doesnt hit a bad free kick

all in all i think he has more attributes as a player than messi he probably does more work too although not the hardest grafter in a team messi does mainly nothing at all without the ball

You only need to look at Scotland, Wales and Ireland compared to England. They've just not got the same amount of people playing to get the same standard of team. That said English Football wouldn't be the same if they got rid of the decent players from overseas. No wonder they play shi@ in major competitions they've rarely got a full team of English playing together to bond.

While i agree that greater numbers in countries increase your chances of succes after all its pretty obvious that if you have 5 million population as oppose to a 200 million population you are going to be pretty limited to the pool of players at your disposal in comparison

i do not agree that it is because of the foreign players in the PL limiting our players of playing together.

If you look at the squad of brazil for instance you will find a lot play in europe for different teams they do not play together at club level argentina are the same.

in the 70's there were not many foreigners in uk football most players were all from Britain or ireland liverpool were one of the top side in europe yet we couldnt even qualify for 74 or 78 world cup nevermind win it.

The only reason that that foriegners are rife in the english game is that our own are not good enough or come overpriced because they are english.

The truth is most of our kids nowadays would rather play fifa on the ps3 than kick a ball in a field if you think it is bad here now wait another 10 years or so for our kids to get fatter and lazier still. As a kid growing up in the 80's it seems that we were the last generation of kids that actually went outside and played out we kicked a ball about 24/7. In a time when brand names were not seen as much and Hi-tek and dunlop were worn instead of adidas.

As time goes on the numbers have declined more and more as computers consoles and the the likes of msn and facebook have made more kids stay at home it amazes me how quickly youth has changed and how empty the football fields are nowadays

my eldest has just turned 13 you have to force him and his brother to leave the house they dont want to move i think when i was your age i was never in the house i feel like buying them a tin of evo a bottle of old english and chasing them to the park

All kids are lazy. They only want to play video games. forget about the youth being the next sports stars the odds are against them. To be a pro athlete you have to give 100% to learn that sport when you are young. But to do that you give up learning so you can make a living and if you go for broke trying to play sports you will find your self 21 and stupid with no future. So how many of the English youth are taking those chances. its the same here in America. The pro's are coming from 3rd world country's where most have no future so all they do is play sports. If they fail who gives a sh*t about them. I know teams have youth development in England but that is no guarantee English players. England needs a national youth development like they do in Germany.

yes thats why the african nations are rising as forces in football and their is more and more players coming from these parts they dont have the luxuries of our lazy kids they see football as something they enjoy and that can get them out of poverty

i think in the next 20 years or so we will see a steady decline in european football teams on the world stage and an emergence of the african nations as a footballing force to rival the countries who have dominated over the years
