    the grand national

just some advice for anyone planning a bet on the national, most bookies are paying 5 places but 1 is paying 6 places which is a good offer but most of the high street bookies are only paying 4 places so its worth checking somewhere like oddschecker to see the odds and place terms, most bookies also offer best odds garunteed so if you take 10/1 and it comes in at 12/1 they pay the bigger odds and if your a new online customer all offer a free matched bet (same stake as your first bet) so if you were going to back 3 or 4 make sure you enter the bet with the highest stake first as this is the amount of the free bet you will get. then all you have to do is find the winner!

dont have a bet on the national, give your money that you were going to wage to charity, its a cruel race for the horses, way too tough for any animal to complete twice, even once is too much in my opinion

Ahhh come on man, it's a cruel race for horses?? if that is the case why do horses that have thrown their jockeys still go on and finish the course??
The Grand national and others like the Gold cup, Derby, etc are part of our heritage..
Something that binds together English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh .. and its not often that happens!!
Ive been lucky enough to work in a high profile Irish stable, (in construction) and have seen how some of these horses are treated.
You would want to see the pampering and care these horses get!!
Do you honestly think a trainer/owner would put one of these prized animals in a race if he thought it was cruel?? ..

the fences are far too big,are you trying to say that trainers think its a safe race ? i know it dosent just happen in the national but the death rate of horses at aintree speaks for itself
if you want me to post some stats just ask,its all about money and prestige for the trainers,

take a look for your self,i know what youre saying about it being one day when everyone comes together etc,and thats a good thing i agree, but it is to the detriment of quite a few horses, and i dont really agree with that, everyone to there own i guess
its just too much for a horse

                      Quote from your link.

"The 2009 Grand National meeting claimed its fifth victim today (April 4) when Hear The Echo collapsed and died at the end of Saturday?s big race"

This is akin to a runner getting a heart attack while out jogging,
In fact most horse fatalities in the national are from heart defects, and not injuries caused by the race itself.. ( i state most not all)

I dont know where your from m8, but in recent years we in Ireland have recorded quite few deaths on GAA pitches, from players that have undiagnosed heart problems..does that mean we ban the sports??

Still all the same i can see your point, and i suppose taking a foot or two off beechers wouldnt go a miss.

The fences are lower and safer than they've ever been. If a horse doesn't want to jump a fence, rest assured it wont.

                          THE TRUTH
                          The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

greatest race in the world for me i only have the odd bet on the races normally only if i get a tip but i always have a go on the national and i always let the kids pick 3 a piece

they love it too although they dont like horse racing the thought of them winnning some cash is great and what makes the national great is it is unpredictable because of its length and jumps ( which have been shortened)

race horse owners love there animals and spend lost of money looking after them the last thing they want is for any injuries or worse scenario death

i dont think it is cruel as stated in an earlier post if a horse doesnt want to jump it wont

it can be pretty dangerous for the little pixies who ride them too they can get a little trampled to say the least

anyway i wont be watching live cos of footy but i will have it recorded and will watch it as if it is live after the footy

                            i have 3

                            Quinz
                            Blue sea cracker
                            Oscar time

?5 on each on the nose and thats it
