The fences are lower and safer than they've ever been. If a horse doesn't want to jump a fence, rest assured it wont.
3 dead saturday, probably add to that a few more today,,30 fences over 4 miles has to be the most severest test for a horse and jockey ever devised,,millions of pounds waged in bets,,why would they want to make it safer ? its a bookies dream, gullible punters throwing money at the most unpredictable race of the season
                happy days

Ornais and Dooneys Gate did not survive the race, R.I.P
Unfortunately this will give the National Bad Press.

But these are the risks run everyday by Horse owners, If it wasn't for horse racing these horses wouldnt even be around and living the life of luxury that they have.

Here's some good info for you Cablefreejunkie:

Dr Kennedy (Anglia Ruskin University) said: 'The risk of death in flat racing is approximately one fatality per 1,000 horse starts and for steeplechases, such as those at the Aintree meeting, it is around six per 1,000 starts. On average then in the larger jump meetings, such as the three-day Grand National, we can expect around three horse fatalities.'

Humans are notoriously bad at understanding risk. An analogy that might be easier for us to relate to is to consider an individual driving their car every day of the year.According to government statistics from around 10 years ago, the number of human fatalities per 1,000 car journeys is 0.00004. If the risk to the driver was the same as the Grand National six deaths in 1,000; then you would be lucky to still be alive after six months. I doubt many of us would accept this and yet we think it is acceptable for horses to be exposed to these risks.

what about the risk to the jockey??? but they are ONLY human after all.. if the horses lived in france, they would be on a plate everyday! good job we like bacon, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey etc!!!!!!

A good Vet could get a horse on a plate in France back on it's feet in no time.

no its sad to see anything die for sport but as been mentioned they wouldnt be here if they were not going to be used for the sport they are bred for the sole purpose of racing

much the same as farm animals if we wernt going to eat them they wouldnt be in the farmers fields

                                THE TRUTH
                                The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.
