how many times in the last 46 years have we not qualified for a european competition?
forgetting the 6 year ban, it is 3, repeat, 3 times... if we dont qualify this season, by finishing a "lowly" 6th, that will make it 4...... can you or any other side come anywhere near that??? i doubt it very, very much... if in 3 or 4 years time, we have increased that number, then by all means come back and talk about 2nd rate/spent force.....

there is my logic your man said it

cmon boomer tbh when was anything but 1st good enough for liverpool you were the benchmark for 20 years now your totting up being able to qualify for europe as success

we have held power for 20 years we are man utd we are blessed it hurts when we do not win it is major failure it hurts more when you get used to winning trophies

when i was a kid i didnt expect us to win the league tbh apart from one season i hoped after a good start i think it was 85-86 and we failed miserably after winning our first 10 games on the bounce and finished about 4th

it didnt register as bad because we were used to not winning it we were a sleeping giant a club living on its glory days of the 50's and 60's what you could call a spent force apart from a few cup finals

losing is different now after so much success its harder take and i am suprised that as a liverpool fan after so much success to here your comment on qualifying for europe

i think anything other than 1st is a failure for clubs of our stature with respect to spurs, villa, bolton, stoke ect qualifying for europe is not an achievement for either you or us

will we last who knows all empires crumble and things do go around in cycles the next manager will be key it has to be right i think only one man can fill the job

but if it all went tits up when fergie leaves i dont think i will be happy in 20 years from now coming 2nd 3rd or 6th whatever winning is what sport is about

or is it something you just get used too in time as i said earlier when i was a kid i didnt really expect to win much it was more of a hope

@ thered... understand where you are coming from, realise it was a fellow fan who said that, but he was wrong...fact.
also, by virtue of the c/league set up, finishing 1st is not now crucial to qualifying and the winning the c/l. (1999, 2005!!). also i would sooner finish 4th than win the l/cup or fa cup and finish 5th or lower.. c/league!!!! dont get me wrong i badly want to win the league again. but we cant be no 1 every season, neither can you nor anyone. but even in you barren years you had some success, that did not really make you a spent force...
although we said it did.... same goes for you with us... you "know" we will be back ... be afraid, be very afraid....
happy easter.... and come on the toffees!!!!! and wba!!!!

@thered... funnily enough,a draw would suit us, dont want the blue noses above us, even for a few hours( but we HAVE to beat b/ham). think we can still get to 5th, tough, but spurs have got chelsea, city and us, all away..same goes for you...,toffees,chelsea and the arse... not easy by any means... but if you do, same as us, we/you deserve it....
btw...as arnie said...."we will be back".. but not NOT really been away....
              happy easter.......

Giggs was a fine player but is only still out there cause Fergie is to cheap to replace him. Time for Giggs to retire to the MLS.

i disagree with that he still has plenty to give he cant run up and down like he used too but he has a great eye for a pass he is still performing at the highest level

he opened the scoring in the CL semi final he set up the 3 goals against chelsea in the quarters he has played well this season and will continue to play a part next year too
