Just on the subject of the op he will make a good squad player at most prem clubs. He would most likely walk into Villas first team and be a great option for Liverpool given Gerrards fitness problems recently. It's about having strength throughout the squad now not just a decent 11. So what if he has a checkered past he is older now and looks to have calmed a little.
I would be worried about him in big games but ......
Liverpool and Villa don't have them these days ...

And two different players altogether cantona was world class and barton is average!! Barton is good in average teams, he won't improve the pool squad at all he will be a hindrance, I so hope he does go to you, You can never compare King Eric to Bully Barton!!

I think he was comparing there behaviour and they are totally different in that respect, Barton has gone through his life making mistakes and then getting another chance and then another chance, You can only give someone so many chances before you wash your hands of them, Barton is a ticking bomb and it could go off at anytime, Even more so if he moved to a club and didn't get his own way all the time, and also if he was just a squad player and not getting as much time on the pitch like he does a newcastle, Thats why i am saying will be a bad signing for any top club.. It's just a waiting game with that kid!!

First off i don't think cantona was a world class player maybe a very good one but world class? second even so it don't make up for what he has done. Joey Barton has served his time get over it. As a Liberal would say he's a product of his environment. Barton a good player and would get more credit for his football if he wasn't a brawler.
