read that RH won't be pushed into using the World Cup guys too soon in the Europa League as he doesn't want them burned out by January..

Hodgson is likely to play both legs, the first scheduled for July 29, without any of his World Cup stars after the club's medical staff warned him about forcing them into action too early.

"Possibly none of our World Cup players will play in the early Europa Cup games if we listen to the advice of the sports science people," said the 62-year-old.

"They are telling me we would be very foolhardy to use players who have only been training for three or four days on the back of the World Cup that early on because that will affect us further on down the road.

"If we feel we are endangering our chances of doing well in the Premier League by risking players in the early stage of the Europa League, it will be a decision the club will have to take. You have to follow the guidance."

Upset..?? It's pre-season.. Pre-season is all about building fitness and match practice.. throw into the ring that NONE of the regular first team are available as they are still on post world cup holidays and it's hardly an upset..

Pre-season main aims must be.. get up to match fitness and avoid injuries.. Also thankfully this year we haven't got any stupid jaunts to Singapore and china

Well.... I watched the game hoping for a win, It counts for nothing at the end of the day as its a warm-up game, I know this! But I never watch a game hoping for a loss, (Apart from the chelsea game few months back.)

When a youth side gets beat 1-0 away in their second game, it's hardly an upset..

What i dont understand is why he or (the sports science lot) arent keen to play more of the squad be it thursday or next thursday, Understandably torres needs a rest but the likes of gerrard and carragher, Johnson, They never went much longer than Kyriagos or Jovanovic, Carragher didnt play in the final game iirc, So i hope roy doesnt abandon europa for the sake of a weeks rest..

To be honest, the Europa League is a pain in the arse.. Our main aim should be getting back into the top 4 and trying to pick up a domestic trophy... For too long now we have put too much emphasis on Europe.. Lets concentrate on becoming England's best then the rest will follow

Saving the players and having a genuine crack at the title will encourage more players of the ilk needed to join the club

It's not just one game though is it.. It's a two leg tie with hours of traveling time and preparation in between

From reading roys statements it looks like he will be playing some of the first team come thursday, Glad the 2nd leg is at anfield now as there is a possibility of more 1st team players being played.
