EXCLUSIVE: Tevez to make Man City return in reserve fixture against Preston
Carlos Tevez will begin his Manchester City comeback in earnest on Tuesday when he makes his first competitive appearance for the club since his fall-out with Roberto Mancini five months ago.
Sportsmail can reveal that, one week after apologising for his actions, Tevez will play for City in a reserve League Cup tie against Preston that has been specially tailored to his needs.
The game was originally scheduled for Chorley?s Victory Park on Wednesday, but City succeeded in changing the venue and date after identifying it as an ideal opportunity for easing him back into action.
Concerned at the state of Chorley?s pitch, and intense media interest in Tevez?s eagerly-awaited return, City requested the tie be brought forward 24 hours and played behind closed doors at their Carrington training complex.
The 2pm kick off will give Mancini the chance to assess the 28-year-old?s match sharpness and how much more fitness work is needed before he can challenge for a first-team recall.
Tevez, who infuriated the City manager by refusing to warm up against Bayern Munich and subsequently spent three-and-a-half months on unauthorised leave in Argentina, was thought to be on course for a return to the squad against Swansea a week on Saturday.
Coach David Platt warned it could take longer, but such an early outing in a competitive reserves match suggests he could be up for selection at the Liberty Stadium.
"This isn't just a job to me." "It's a mission. I am deadly serious about it. Some people would reckon too serious. We will get there, believe me. And when it happens, life will change for Liverpool and everyone else - dramatically."
the Tevez affair is a difficult one for us city fans, we want to boo the Herman Munster head so much, if he plays for the first team again, but we don't want to cause any unrest or friction with the rest of the team, I just hope they leave him to rot in the reserves for the next three months.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester City may start to get affected by the scheduling of TV fixtures on the Premier League title run-in.
Once again, Manchester United go second this weekend, with their trip to Tottenham coming on Sunday - 24 hours after City entertain relegation-threatened Bolton.
Next weekend both sides have Sunday fixtures and the weekend after City are not due to be in action until Monday, when they entertain Chelsea, although that match might be pushed back still further due to the FA Cup.
It is the kind of scheduling Ferguson has been dealing with for over two decades now but is totally new for City and their manager Roberto Mancini.
"It doesn't make a difference to us - but it may make a difference to them as they don't have the same kind of experience," Ferguson told Inside United. "You never know."
Sounds like Fergie is worried about the spuds game this weekend, and clutching at straws a bit.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed Mario Balotelli has been fined a week's wages, believed to be around ?120,000, for a breach of club discipline.

It's United's title then.
That's not an over-reaction either. It is just stating an observed fact based upon four months of negative away performances.
Early in the season we went for the kill away from home right from the start. Since a 3-2 win at QPR when Mancini expressed concern about the defence, we have started to employ totally different tactics based upon containment and up the tempo only if we have to when things are not going right. It's resulted in 1-1, 1-2, 0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 0-1, 1-0 and 0-1 in our last 8 away games. That's four goals scored and three of them were from set pieces. If we'd have played to our strengths then you are not telling me we would not have had a better record than that.
Mancini is a pr1ck. A complete and utter first grade pr1ck. Unfortunately we won't sack him so I just hope he takes the hump and takes his crappy Italian football home with him.
It's time for Tevez to return, if it's true about Balotelli n Toure having a bust up doesn't do well for the team especially at this crucial time of the season. I think the majority of the team want Tevez back in maybe not the fans, but if he is brought back in and does the business and gets you that title im sure all will be forgiven.
Titles not over yet this maybe the game that has given you that kick up your back side you needed, the derby is the game everyones waiting for to see which side of the city the title ends up.
bollox it's over yet, if city win every game it's there title, and thats a fact,
United have to play swansea and sunderland away yet and they ain't going to be a walk over, not to mention playing us, get a grip, it's no where near over yet, still 10 games to go.
