nearly a hundred more years of history and prestige and finals and winners people actually remembered are why the fa cup was a major trophy

when i was young the fa cup was big and a prestigous trophy people were exited to watch whether they supported the teams or not cup final day was always a buzz

the difference now is we are oversaturated with football and other trophys are seen as bigger so the fa cup has taken a back seat in personal preference lately

i once new all winners finalists and goalscorers from the late 60's to some point in the mid 90's the last few years i couldnt even tell you who won in the final i cant even remember who won it last year

which to me is a shame because it was a great cup

to compare winnning the fa cup to winning the league cup though is like winning the premier and winning the championship they are in a different league

for starters when it was introduced as a trophy its commonly known it wasnt wanted by most clubs and a lot declined to enter

its purpose was to create midweek games and make extra revenue for clubs under the quite recent addition of floodlights

it was only taken up by the masses when it was given a back door european place to the winner

which is why it is not held with the same esteem as the fa cup its always had a touch of the mickey mouse about it

as for the treble yes it was done by you lot first but we just made it a better one

agreed, the fa cup always was a massive trophy. as you say,every year was a big event. the only footy on tv..
but when the lc finals started at wembley that changed and now with the cupwinners cup being obsolete,the 2 cups are equal. both give entry to europe.. still insist the lc was/is harder to win..the semis are over 2 legs and until a few years ago, so was the1st round..
agreed the fa has more glamour but still the same end product.. dont think i am knocking you, but i think it was you who started playing a weakened side a good few years ago. you got a lowly club and won. the next round you drew n/castle and had to stick by your guns.. think you got beat.. if you had got n/castle in the previous round, i dont think you would have played a weak side...not100% on facts there, just going of memory.
as to which one?? winning the fa in1965 was awesome. but
after winning the lc 4 in a row, whu,spurs,you,toffees, it is known as our cup..and not being big-headed there. anyway, getting be chelski scarf out!!!! see you, scouse...

dont disagree that fa cup is pretty poor now and we are one of the main reasons we couldnt even be bothered to defend it after 99 but theres no getting away from the fact that it is still ahead of the carling rumbelows milkybar cup or whatever the ~~~~ its called now
