in brief (from my own head btw )
we were formed in 1878 by railway men and were not to clever apart from a brief spell under ernest magnal after that we struggled for money and were a bit of a yo yo club until sir matt joined the club
he invested in youth and won the title with a squad average age of just 22 in back to back seasons playing cavalier attacking football that has become a brand
making the club the first english team in history to enter the european cup whilst in 58 this ended in disaster some would say that this me included made manchester united the biggest club in the land
if not for munich and at an age of 22 its pretty fair assumpmtion that at the very least the title would have followed again in 58 as it was looking very good pre munich and also real madrids stanglehold in europe would have been cut
as it was we started again 8 players were lost and some never played again we slid down the league winning only once or maybe twice before the season ended and finished about 9th
busby then slowly rebuilt the squad adding law and best and won the league in 65 and 67 before being the first english side in 68 to win the europen cup all be it belatedly by about 10 years
after that busby went and come back for a bit the team declined injuries to key players like law and general ageing of players like charlton seen utd slip not helped by george best and his boozing
we were relegated in 74 not by dennis law btw as some people think to win the second division and bounce back after that we became a bit of a cup side losing in 76 then winning in 77 stopping liverpool win a proper treble in 77 losing again in 79 but won it twice under big ron in 83 and 85
after ron got sacked in 86 fergie took over a manager who had achieved amazing succes in scotland by breaking up the celtic and rangers domination even winning the cup winners cup with aberdeen against real madrid
after what looked to be a good start we were near the bottom when he joined he took is too second in his first full season the next 2 years though were poor and some fans were calling for his head
he changed the old guard got rid of the drinkers apart from robson and in 1990 won the fa cup in a game that seen the emergence of ian wright after a cup winners cup in 91 it wasnt too long before we won the newly formed PL in 93
and thats when our history started
you started by robbing evertons ground
and were a bit of a yo yo clib like us you started big time when shankly set the wheels in motion and got you from the second division doldrums in the 60's
in fact in the 60's we both had a remarkably similar succes rate regarding trophies won you just lacked the glamour
after united declined in the early 70's you became a force at home and in europe by becoming the second engliah team to win europen cup in 77 stopped from doing a proper treble by united (
did i mention that earlier) after that admittedly you ruled the roost and added more silverware until kenny dalglish decided to walk out for a bigger club stating too much pressure
or was it a declining squad only he knows really after that and a few failed managers you beacme the worst team in history to win the CL i think milan had bet on themselves at half time not to turn up cos the thought it was already won
you won old big lugs for the 4th sorry 5th time i forget i dont hear it very often
you the managed to scrape a win in the fa cup in 2006 and the rest is history
so there you go boomer is that enough history of the 2 clubsLast edited by thered; 9 May, 2011, 13:29.Comment

Well this is true you have never won a premiership title
But a league title is a league title no matter what they decide to call the league itself. Utd has one of the very best histories well beyond 1992 as the red's post above is testament to.
To say history only started for Utd in 92 is rather lame to be fair given what they had achieved previously.
Ok so league history ended for Liverpool in 1990 and only a liar would say that watching Utd lift their 19th title wont leave a bitter taste.
The true measure of greatness is league titles (no matter what the leagues called) but you already know thisComment

THE TRUTH
The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12
Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.Comment
