David beckham might not be the greatest footballer but has the skills on and off the pitch you want in a player

in my opinion he's not been international class for years and however bad england were in the world cup i cant imagine he would have started a game, lets face it a world class player should light the mls up but he was overshadowed by landon donavan.

Capello should have made Beckham call, says Eriksson

Former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson says he would have handled ending David Beckham's international career in a different manner to Fabio Capello.
Current coach Capello has been widely criticised for saying 115-cap Beckham was "probably too old" to continue in a TV interview without informing him.

But Eriksson said speaking to players personally about big decisions which affect them is a key part of the job.
"You have to do that to show respect," he told BBC Radio 5 live.
Capello's decision to end Beckham's England career was revealed ahead of Wednesday night's friendly win over Hungary, prompting the LA Galaxy midfielder's agent to release a statement confirming the player's desire to carry on playing for England.

It is understood that Capello's assistant, Franco Baldini, had phoned Beckham to tell him that Capello had suggested his England career was over in the interview.
But Capello, whose general communication with many of his squad and prospective players is being now brought into question, did not call.

I am just glad he capello only has two years left what a waste of money!!!

i think beckham is past his best. but i don't think he could of done any worse than the current england crop.you should never write the lad off just incase you end up needing him again to a job for you with injuries look at what steve mcclaren done then he had to go crawling back to him with his tail between his legs.

yeh he may be past his best but he was a great england player and didnt deserve to be treated the way cappello has done
he cud of spoke to him 1st and told him he wudnt be in his plans
it must of been like a kick in the teeth to hear it on the news
if only we cud of had more players with beckams passion at the world cup
