I've posted details in the general thread. If it's correctly treated it's less likely to develop further issues.

But I'd still be looking to pass it on in a none returnable way.

Does the rice remove the contaminates left by the water?

Does the rice stop further erosion of the metallic parts within the phone?

        Answer..... NO!

The rice may absorb the water, but every piece of metal on every componant that got wet could have trace elements left on them from the evaporated water.

If these elements are not removed they will eat into the metal, helped by the DC voltage passing through the board. Eventually destroying the componants & the phone with it.

Go back 12 years or so, the best way to try & fix a water damaged phone was to strip it down & wash it in distilled water, then dry it with a hairdryer. The reason being that distilled water has no other particles caught up in it.

Back then IPA wasn't openly available. IPA absorbs the water & washes away any trace elements that were in the water.

Here's another difference.... You were told this works by people who read it off the internet in posts made by people who were told it by other people...on the internet.

I do this every week as part of my job fixing mobile phones in a shop. IPA, sonic baths & heat drying are the industry standard for repairing water damaged phones... not rice & an airing cupboard.

Canker is IPA Isopropyl alcohol and how do you use this, do you need to strip the phone or just immerse it?

youre missing the point mate this method works in some circumstances both phones absolutely fine now. However if you want a proffessional repair then follow your advice. I was offering a low cost solution which may or may not work depending on how much water was taken inside the iphone. It is a proven fix for me- fact.

The phone has to be stripped, main board out. Don't use IPA on the lcd. You have to lightly scrub the board & connectors with IPA & a toothbrush. Submerging it in IPA & shaking it will also help. When you think you've got rid of all the deposits dry it with a hot air gun or hairdryer.
The Iphone has metal shielding covering two parts of the board (3G & 3GS), these have to be removed. Make sure you put them back on when you're done.

It may of worked for you, but I can guarentee if the phone was opened up there would be serious signs of water damage. This will kill the phone over time.

For the sake of a couple of quid & some time you can give the phone a better chance of survival.

              IPA on ebay...

?3 for enough to do one phone.

Under ?7 to do lots of phones & light a few BBQ's

              Hardly expensive is it.

99.9% IPA will hold up to 50% of it's volume of water, & still burn.

canker it could be very expensive if you open up an iphone and cant or dont put it back together right. Think i will try the rice trick first mate.

If it's a Iphone 4 the back glass comes off very easily, might be worth rinsing with distilled water then using rice for a bodge fix as without a proper stripdown the IPA will damace the lcd, Canker will probably be able to advise if that sounds ok

I'd not recommend using more water on an Iphone 4. The battery cannot be isolated without stripping the phone down. Unless you are left with no other alternative I'd not advise stripping down the I4.

As far as the other Iphones go, as long as you're careful & follow walkthroughs available online for dismantling, you should be ok.
