no harm in trying another copy, you could also try on Wiihacks to see if there's any info on there.

have you tried changing the tv resolution in the tv settings?
my tv has auto detect so it displays the correct resolution and manual settings for 50hz and 60hz.

Just checked my TV (older model with limited options, really need to upgrade) but there doesn't seem to be any way to change the setting in a way to compensate for the problem. I'm just giving up on this game for a while and moving onto a different problem I'm having... I'll be posting a thread for it shortly. Thanks for all the help.

it's most likely because you are playing a pal (UK format) game on a NTSC (us format) TV.
it is probably because your tv (being an older presumably US model) cannot display the pal resolution.
you need to change the tv display settings from ntsc to pal 50 / pal 60.

Yes it is a PAL format game on a NTSC system (and TV) but that usually isn't a problem. This is one of many PAL games that I have and so far it's the only one that isn't working. Thus my confusion. I'm moving on to another problem now though. Thank you for trying to help.
