Wii Softmod Tutorial for noobs like me

Hi All,

Sorry for the noob question - I followed the 1st post (down to 3.2e + starfall) to the end and have managed to get some n64 wads to work

Now I want to be able to load/play games (ISO/WAD) from USB as I do not have a dvd burner.

Is it true I have to upgrade CIOS...36v9 to V10 then look for a usbloader wad?

Or is there an alternative way.

I wouldn't say that you have to upgrade to be able to play some of the games BUT if you want to play the new ones then you WILL definitely have to upgrade to the latest one. Have a look at this thread mate:

And also if you dont know this!!! You will have to format your drive as WBFS using the latest WBFS Manager 3.0 to get the full compatibility with your Wii. Then use the same program to rip the games to your drive.

Actually I have just realised that this is the least of my worries.

I bought the wii second hand and when I plugged it into my 42 inch HDTV the picture was a bit off particularly jaggardy.

I went ahead and softmodded anyway while I ordered a component cable through amazon. The picture is slightly better but still has random pixel problems.

I think I have the dreaded vertical lines of static when the cpu overheats!

serves me right for buying second hand and I don't think I can try and return it to the owner as I have already traded half the games (and of course soft modded it!).

Does anyone know what I should do. Is it worth me contacting Nintendo to see if they will fix it?

If they agree will I need to do a hard reset to hide all of my manipualtion?

As far as I know this is due to overheated because Wii has a bad ventilation system. I would definitely call nintendo and they will fix it for you. Please make sure you do a System format before you send it.

The ventillation is a problem that nintendo already know and with abit of persuasion from yourself (which you should force upon them) will definitely make them take it for repair.

I did a system format and it cleared all channels (inc homebrew) and game saves, but it still says I am using 3.2e on the system info - how do I go about getting this back to the 3.4 it was before I followed the instructions in thread 1?

Or do I have to add all that again - is there an option for 3.4 normal during the downgrading phase on this as opposed to picking 3.2e?

The reason I ask is that I don't want to get in trouble with Nintendo if I send it back with 3.2e on it.

Did you buy the Wii brand new? try to remember... if not then the chances are it was lower that 3.4 anyway and someone must have done a firmware update in the past. I wouldn't worry about it too much if it was second hand.

no it was definitely second hand which is why I am having the vertical lines of pixels issues - it was obviously played a lot in the past.

But I do remember it was 3.4 before I started playing around with it.

Hi there

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have softmodded my wii and would like to now is it safe to use the shop-channel and voting channel? Or come to think of it all the channels that come installed on the wii when you buy it.

Also if someone could help a little bit more when i softmodded my wii i did a little mistake so i formatted the wii memorys with my friends list is it safe to register a new account so i can add my mates back it keeps saying to turn on connect24?

Ps my wii works great so will it mess up my wii if i turn connect24 on.

But now I bought the original version of Wii Sports Resort (incl. the motion plus) When I ran the game, all I got was a blackscreen and the Wii froze..
Then the packaging said "You may need to update your Wii in order to play this game properly" So I went on and updated my Wii to 4.0i

The game works like a charm now, but HBC and my backuploader are not working anymore... So I can't play any backups anymore

Does someone have a solution for my problem?
