    Hardware mod and USB loader

    Hi there

ive been given a Wii that has a hardware mod to allow playing backup disks. However I want to use the USB loader.

It has the HomeBrew channel on it and on the memory card there is a BootMii folder and that was it. I loaded the Usb loader software on it and tried to run it via Homebrew channel but it complained it needed a number of IOS's eg 222.

Thats the problem with been given a Wii that someone else has had a play with.

What is the easiest way of finding out what state its in? Im not sure how much its been modded at all.

I know its a UK 4.2 Wii and has the Homebrew channel installed and thats it..

I have seen some tutorials for completely softmodding including installing the Homebrew channel and I was hoping I could just follow the instructions for one of these (from after the point of installing HomeBrew)

Is it possible installing any of the cIOS's might interfere with the hardware mod or vice versa.

And any ideas how I can find out what hardware mod it has? Apart from opening the Wii? Perhaps some combination of buttons on startup that will bring me to a configuration page... ?

    andy ideas would be appreciated.

    cheers

Well I've never heard of a Wii thats been hardware modded interfering with a the softmod. You say its been softmodded and you have the Homebrew channel on the Wii menu. All you really need to do is install the required wads to make the USB Loaders work. Now this is generally cIOS249 for all 3 USB Loaders. What you need to do is add Multi-Mod Manager (MMM) 13.4 to the SD card and install all the wads in d2x v7 final by adding them to the wad folder on the SD card.

What you could also do is post a sysCheck report as directed in that link so we can see if any other essential wads are missing.

You can add all 3 of the USB Loaders to the SD card so you can see which one you like the best the you can add the forwarder channel so its always on the Wii menu.

You will also need a big enough USB Compatible hard drive to store these games. There are various ways to store these games on the HDD but I find WBFS Manager the simplest method to use.

Compared with mine no main IOS's you need are

        IOS58 - Needed for PriiLoader 0.7

Install the d2x v7 final wads that should give you

IOS245[37] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS246[38] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access
IOS247[53] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS248[55] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS249[56] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS250[57] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS251[58] (rev 21007, Info: d2x-v7final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

Now there are various ways to update these wads so lets try the easy way first. Download ModMii 6.0.3 extract the zip. Put your sysCheck.csv on the root of your drive as its easier than typing in its full location.

Run Modmii.exe from Windows and after you type in I Agree you see the menu options type in SU for sysCheck updater. This will check your sysCheck.csv to see which IOS's you have installed and check online if any need up dating. Any updates it finds will be added to the COPY_TO_SD sub folder just copy them to the SD card and install all wads with MMM.

You missed a biggy again keith...homebrew channel is only 1.0.1 and is running on ios 61 it should be version 1.0.8 running on ios 58. He will need to run the hackmii installer and reinstall hbc to ios 58 after he has updated the rest of the ios

Yes I did see that but thats because is an old softmod. The HackMii is the Homebrew installer the latest being 1.0.8 as you say.

If his main concern is getting the USB Loader working then surely the d2x v7 final will get that working for him.

It will but he may still have problems as the d2x is designed to work with a patched ios 58 with hbc running on it....d2x may not install properly with hbc on 61. He needs to put the csv into modmii then install wads before running hackmii again to reinstall hbc into 58. He will get all the required files by selecting the wizard in modmii but only following the guide from installing wads then he can run the updated hackmii to reinstall hbc

I said he really needs to install IOS58 for PriiLoader which I've given the link to.

I know you did but he will still need to reinstall hbc to get it to work properly. He will still find that games won't load correctly. Don't ask me why cause I don't know for sure why. I just know that it is a compatibility issue

thanks for all the info guys.

                    so the process should be:

                    1. Use ModMii with the SysCheck file to set the wads to copy to memory card
                    2. Install wads via MMM
                    3. Reinstall HBC using HackMii?

Is there anything I need to watch for when reinstalling HBC? Do I need to remove the old one first?

As mentioned before, this is a Wii that has been handed to me with HBC already on it. I have my own Wii that I softmodded years ago. And Im sure the process may have changed since then...

You are spot on...nothing to watch for just reinstall hbc straight over the top, by doing it after you have installed the new wads downloaded from modmii it will automatically install into ios 58

                        Hey there

Do I install the d2x v7 final wads, then run syscheck again and put that through ModMii to get the updated wads. Or do I just run ModMii on the current syscheck file I have and install all the wads it puts in the wad folder?

Also, looking at the guide that ModMii generates it mentions installing the IOS236 patch and also PriiLoader but says I need Homebrew V1.0.7 for it to work. I believe I have 1.0.1.

After this then you install the wads.

Or do I need to just install all the wads generated in the folder with MMM via the current V1.0.1 HBC. Then do I need to run the IOS 236 patcher then reinstall HBC new version?

                        Apologies for the confusion...

                        cheers

                            Sorry mate..

Still trying to clarify the process. I have ran BootMii on the current syscheck file and copied all the files to the SD card.

So do I install the current wads first? Then HBC? Then install the dx7 wads?

And what about Priiloader and the IOS 236 update jobby?
