Welcome to DK.

I assume this Wii is connected to the internet via the router.

Has it always been a 4.3 or has it been updated previously?

The first thing you need to do is buy/get a 2GB SD card. I know its a 4.3 which will use larger SDHC cards but you can't softmod with those.

The easiest way to softmod is to use Letterbomb. Just start the Wii up and click on Wii Options bottom left and click on Wii Settings the spanner. Click right to Internet and click on it then click on Console Information. This will show the MAC address for that Wii, write the numbers and letters down as you will need to type this number back in on the Letterbomb site so it will send a message to that Wii.

That site is abit confusing because it says A SD(HC) card with some free space

An SDHC won't softmod a Wii.

Click on the LetterBomb link and it will default to a 4.3E at the top just type in the MAC adress in the boxes. Type in the spam words and click the Cut the Red Wire button to download Letterbomb.zip to your drive.

Extract all files from the zip to the 2GB SD card formatted to FAT32. Put the SD card in the Wii start the Wii up then click on the messages buttom bottom right and scroll back a few days untill you see the red envelope then click on it. The SD card has to be inserted before you see this red envelope so don't click on messages if its not unserted as you won't see the red envelope.

Now the only pain with Letterbomb is it can take a while before the message appears, just keep checking the messages every 10 minutes or so. When I first used Letterbomb I typed the MAC address in and by the time I had put the files on the SD card and stuck it in the Wii I clicked on messages and it was there. The other 2 Wii's I tried to softmod the same way no message appeared for 2 hours. I used my LEGO Indiana Jones - Original Adventures disc with the same SD card and it worked perfectly.

You must use all 3 options once it starts after the copyright screen.

1. Install Homebrew
2. Install BootMii on IOS
3. Prepare SD card - this is so you can do a NAND backup straight after softmodding. NAND backup Don't forget this backup its just in case you do something wrong and you brick your Wii.

That will softmod the Wii only. Then you need to read some threads on adding USB Loaders which wads you need to install with MMM

As HH has suggested you could use ModMii but its a matter of knowing what to type in or which options you want.

Yes no games are required anymore. Run modmii and select letterbomb as your hack method

Hi all, sorry to jump in but I have noticed that modmii doesn't use anymore letterbomb, I just had to type the mac address on modmii software and it didn't open anymore the window for letterbomb. I can t remember well but I think modmii call "wilbrand"- or something like that - what we used to do for letterbom. I noticed this 2 weeks ago, things could be different now as modmii always update to newer versions.....

This is very simple but if the wii was bought as a 4.3 or after 2009 it won't play dvdr so you will have to use external hard drive

you can enter the serial number on a site but can't remember off hand which one but the easiest method is to run a syscheck after softmodding and the results will tell you the drive date.
don't bother with the drive chip site it's full of popups
