how to play copied games on wii

New to this, so basically, if i get myself an external hard drive, USB to my Wii, store the games on there which I download from isohunt I can play direct, disks are redundant as such, and no mod to my Wii?

no you have to mod your wii first

I have softmodded Wii with menu v3.4e but the games that used to play fine before this seem to want to do a Wii system update?
Is this safe to do so before i end up upgrading to v4.0 so that i can install priiloader and disable the update option due to priiloader not working on 3.4e?

if you want to upgrade try this Digital Kaos - Downloads - v4.2 safe firmware updater then you can install preloader Digital Kaos - Downloads - preloader-v02-rev32 but before you install it you need a patched ios 70 Digital Kaos - Downloads - ios70-64-v6687[patched][freethebug].wad good luck

Follow what the guide say's m8 and yes you can use a hdd for your back up's.
