Right you have homebrew channel, fine, now format your SD card and go onto stage 2,complete4_2.zip extract the folders to your SD card, look something like this,

apps (5 folders inside this one)
wad (7 wad files inside this)
                    IOS15-64-v257.wad
                    IOS15-64-v523.wad
                    IOS15-64-v3351.wad

                      1. Load Trucha Bug Restorer. Press B to choose No IOS Reload. Wait a few seconds and then press 1 to continue. Choose Downgrade IOS15. When prompted, choose load IOS from SD and press A to continue, follow the prompts and exit when finished.

                      2. Load Trucha Bug restorer again and this time press left on the Wii remote until you select IOS15 and Press A. Wait a few seconds and press 1. Choose IOS36 menu. Copy the settings so they are exactly as listed below:

                      Install IOS to slot (36)
                      Hash check (trucha) YES
                      ES_Identity YES
                      Nand Permissions YES

Scroll back up and select install patched IOS36. When asked choose to load IOS from SD. Follow any further prompts and exit when finished.

                      3. Load Trucha Bug Restorer yet again, now choose IOS36 and press A. Wait a few seconds and press 1. Choose to restore IOS15. Press A to restore. When Prompted always choose ?Load IOS from SD? follow any further prompts and exit when finished.

If at this point you get a DSI stack error, try powering down your Wii completly and then turning it back on and carrying on from step 4. If the DSI error continues, in the Homebrew channel press the home button and choose to go into the Bootmii menu. From inside Bootmii choose to load the homebrew channel again, and then run Trucha Bug Restorer. You should now be able to follow the step 4 instructions fully.

                      4. Run Any Title Deleter from the Homebrew Channel. Choose IOS36 and press A. Go to System Titles and press A. Select the following IOS files one by one and select A to delete them one after the other:

                      IOS222
                      IOS223
                      IOS249
                      IOS250

If any of the above are not listed. Do not worry, just ignore and move onto the next one or the next step below. Press home to exit when finished.

                      5. In the Homebrew Channel Run WAD Manager.

When it opens choose IOS36,, Press A to open from SD slot. Install the following WAD files in order as listed below to your Wii:

                      IOS70-v6687.wad
                      IOS202-v4.wad
                      IOS222-v4.wad
                      IOS223-v4.wad
                      IOS249-v14.wad
                      IOS250-v65535.wad
                      forwarder-UMRD wad

You are now set for playing backups on your Wii.
Let us know how you get on m8.

oldman nothing will work until you manipulate the IOS's on your wii.. .. getting hombrew channel is only the start of softmodding on 4.2.... older FWs work different.. youve prob got an older FW guide

follow dell_xps guide above and it will work for 4.2 with HB chanl.. thats the exact guide I used and the only one that worked for me.. I was having the same probs as you thinking once the HB chnl was installed that was me ready for backups.. you have to follow THAT EXACT guide above and it will work then you can install wads and the backup launcher chnl through Homebrew

Well theres a hack method that cgscott has uploaded in the download section or on page 1 of this thread... or if your sticking with the dell_xps guide then this is the same guide and page where I got my stuff from(its identical to dell_xps guide so dont worry)

Id recommend this as it worked for me no probs.. can be abit long and nerve wrecking though

HOWTO: Setup a System Menu 4.2 Wii for playing backups of commercial games with uLoader Ade's Softmodding Wii blog

Once you have this up and running you can get additional wads like Backup launcher and put them on the SD and install them using wad manager

                                Tested by myself..

It human error that wont make it work.

Did you get the backup channel?
