The error i think he was getting was -2 (read error) in uloader due to poor quality discs not the 002 error.

Yes m8, but gotta sort a few other probs out on it first, as it was on an old banner bomb thing, then tried another loader but kept getting 002 error & thought it will prob be because I did not unistall the last banner bomb thing, so I think I need to wipe the wii memory clean first & do it again as a fresh install.

Was gonna do it 2morrow with my son (as he knows more than me) & start a new thread, but when I saw this thread heading "how to remove Wii updates" I thought I could pick up some more tips first coz that's just what I need to know.

But this thread did not realy cover how to remove any Wii updates...

Anyway my plan was to try & wipe the wii of all existing soft mods & do the "safe 4.2e updater" as I am on 3.2 & then do the "Wii 4.2E softmod tutorial. Easy to follow guide" that Dellxp did, then sort out the 002 error if I still had it after that.

Does this sound like a good plan or would you recomend anything different

                  Thanx - Ian

Me personally i would delete your homebrew channel and any other channel to do with mods ie. uloader. Then do a system update via net,and then continue with the easy 4.2e guide posted by dell-xps. I recently done one the same way and all worked fine.

Update over the net & not the safe updater?

Having read around other forums ect, most recomend keeping the base firmware on 3.2 as it is the best version to have & updating it with a custom firmware so you can allways go back...

What is this "nand backup" I remember doing one of those & keeping it on a seperate small SD card, would that still work on an "online update" if I had to downgrade?

                      Thanx - Ian

here is a guide from adewii's blog site about nand back ups HOWTO: Make a NAND Backup with Bootmii and how to restore. Ade's Softmodding Wii blog.
If you still have the original nand back up you had from the start then that will put your wii back to the state it was in at that time.

You could do either system update, when you do it over your wifi 4.2e update would delete your homebrew channel anyway.

Ok Thanx m8, Yes I still have the original nand backup,

Do you know if the 4.2 "safe updater" will also delete the homebrew & clear out all the other old softmod updates ect, like you said the wifi update would

                          Gonna do all this tonight...

The safe updater wont delete your homebrew or anything else, it will with nintendo update.
The reason i choose to delete homebrew and any other hack apps then do a system update is because its a fresh install and always works fine eg no errors or black screens!

                                Hmmm, Thanx guys.

Was hoping that the safe updater would get rid of previous updates fisrt, as I have tried a few methods now & still kept getting the 002 error (played everything else though),

So I did not want the previous old crap to get in the way just in case that was the reason I was getting the problems...

I think I will try the safe updater method first, if not do the wifi update method, which as you say will give it a clear out..

                                Thanx - Ian
