download this Digital Kaos - Downloads - wbfs manager 3 its a pc based program for formatting the drive and putting your iso's on the drive.
format the drive too wbfs and drop your iso's on it,then plug it into the r/h side usb port if looking at it from the back or the bottom one if its lying down, start usbloadergx and away you go

If you have downloaded and installed usbloader gx just open the loader then turn the power on to the hdd wait till it starts then put game disk into wii you will thewn be told new disk detected would you like to install to drive click yes and all is done it can take about 10 mins to back game up. If you are not prompted with new disk there is a + button in the bottom left corner just above the the two cogs button press that and follow the prompts. It is very user friendly.

are you using a forwarder or a full channel and do you have any iso game files on your pc to put on the hard drive. And have you tried with the hard drive switched on first before starting as well as starting loader before drive. The only way I can get any of hdd loaders to work properly on my 4.3e is to use the full channels. I'll upload the latest gx full channel for you but let me know if you want me to give you a complete newbie installation guide as I don't know just how much you know about soft mods.

OK m8 we'll start at the start. This is the channel I am using
usbloader gx r938 full channel click the link and download. On the Sd card you used to install the boot files there will be a file called wads. Extract the channel into the wads folder. Now connect hdd to pc and open wbfs manager select the drive letter from the drop down on the left hand side and click load drive, That will open up the options on the right hand side now click browse and select an iso file you have downloaded. Now click add to drive. While we are waiting on the file to load (about 8 mins). switch wii on and click wii button in the bottom left select data management then wii channels and remove usb loader gx channel that you have installed. Go back to main screen insert sd card that has the new loader file in the wad folder. Open homebrew channel (HBC) and click home button on wii remote this bring up a list move down with direction pad on the wiimote until wad manager is selected, press a to open scroll down to r938 wad click a to install. remove the sd card and reboot wii. Go back to pc and as soon as game has been added to drive remove drive and plug it back into wii. DO NOT SWITCH ON HDD. Open gx loader from new channel. When loader says waiting for slow usb switch on hdd. Drive will now load and you will see a cover with a ? on it a game name under it. If you have this screen all is well and just follow instructions from previous post for adding games to drive from original disks. Sorry if any of this post sounds like telling my granny how to suck eggs but it should be easy to follow

First you will need an empty sd card formatted to fat32 doesn't have to be big I was using 16mb for ages. Put sd card into wii open loader and in main screen with all blank boxes click the number 1 on wiimote select download covers then 3d boxes. I am assuming wii is connected internet. All is done. This SD will now have 2 purposes and can be left in the wii all the time if you want. The first purpose is for covers but more importantly it will have all your game setttings saved on it i.e number of times played and ios settings used to load game. NOT ALL GAMES LOAD WITH IOS 249. But we will come to that as and when required there are plenty of posts and people to help you with any probs you run into. Happy gaming.. ;o)

didn't notice the DVD bit. Now that is a different story the answer is mplayer ce but I can't get a dvd to load with it however I have only tried once because it has a much better feature allowing you to stream avi movies direct from pc through wifi to tv but ck ok is the man with all the answers but if you want to set up mplayer I am more than happy to go through it with you but it does require you to set up a home network on your pc which is not difficult.
