HDMI not working, any ideas?

I had a similar problem connecting EX7000HD Cable box to my brothers Bravia. Turned out I need to plug the cable into hdmi 1 and play through AV5. His TV was an old version and did not auto detect the device. Try the same.

Theres no AV5 its a pretty new TV ive tried 2 hdmi ports.

But good idea I did try changing the source whilst connected but didnt work.

Apparantly a common (handshake) problem. I looked this up online, doesn't mean much to me but if you haven't tried in this order give it a go:
Start both Sony TV and the ps3 together. Select the HDMI port then turn TV off but leave ps3 on. Restart Sony TV and it should detect HDMI as it opens HDMI port. It should find ps3.
