What we've all been waiting for...ish!!!

Waninkoko has released A custom firmware for v3.55 PS3 that enables Backup Manager support + Online great news..
BUT there's a sting in the tail there has been many reports of 'bricking' by users, mostly the 60gb models
    UPDATE
Waninkoko's firmware is no good far to risky

Whats the score on this now with bricks as I have the one underlined above. Are there any bricks with these models on wutangrza's CFW, or are previously bricked versions safe to do on his release??
Mines still on 3.41 virgin no mods etc.

                Cheers Lads

I've sacked waninkoko, the risk was too high, some reported everything worked well on a model and then there where a few reporting they wound up bricked on the same model.
There's too much noise to decipher whether its user error or a bad command in the kernel causing it

I'm using Wutangrza and it boots fine, installed geohots patch over it and installed the lv2 patcher and everything works as it should, slapped in modnation racer and copied to the internal hdd, then wound up making a pkg from the eboot.bin and it loaded up (at least till i updated the game and rewrote the contents of the pkg)

So Wutangrza seems the way forward, there's been no bricking reports from it thus far.

As soon is i wind up getting things running smoothly I'll write up a tutorial.

                    Cheers Chroma Mate,

Whats the crack do you still need a game in the drive (any game not original?)

If you do a tut mate can you include ftp etc for getting games onto internal drive etc.

                    Thanks Bud

the method i used was to download the original 3.55 firmware.
Patch the Wutangrza firmware to that.
Slap it on a usb stick in /PS3/UPDATE
                      Update the console

                      Patch geohots over that

                      Install lv2.pkg

and voila a fully open PS3.

Ive had modnation racers run briefly without the disk, then i updated the game and all hell broke loose, trying to figure out what i need to do from here, apparently the new eboot.bin's dont work with unself so i cant make a self pkg at this point, still looking for a workaround.

The reason I went with Kmeaw's firmware is because on Wutangrza's/Geohot Firmware you have to use pkg's signed with geohots tools.
On Kmeaw's Firmware you can install any pkg. Like the ones from 3.41 and ones signed with geohot tools.

black screens, crashes, dropping to XMB.

Modracers for instance just throws me an error.
bioshock 2 just dumps me to the xmb
lv1 dump winds up crashing if i dont lv2 patch first etc.

Its early days yet and the tools are not all in place to make things straightforward or entirely functional. give it a few weeks and this will all be streamlined like the Wii

Chroma have a look at this re black screens etc Bud

                              follow link to downloads

It seems that alot of folks are having issues installing and running backups on there Ps3***8242;s due to the bug in PL3 that effects file permissions. Here is what I have been doing to get around the black screen hangs and disc read errors.

                              1. fire up multiman, blackb0x, whatever ftp & transfer your backup
                              2. run your lv2 pkg of choice
                              3. run the fix permissions app that is installed from running the package located here ***8211;
                              Code:
                              http://www.mediafire.com/?cyi363utdttieux
The app will go through the HD and correct the file permission errors that come with using PL3. I have been using this method after each game backup I install,
however if you install (ftp/copy) 5 at a time the app only needs to be run once and it will fix all 5 games as it does its magic to the entire drive.
Now as far as USB, hampster driven HD***8217;s etc I can not say as I do not have any of the above so I have not tested it myself.
