edit:found another plate on other side next to dvd rom plug, this xbox def been to the wars.you can see the 4 screws in first picture at 1 o'clock that hold small plate on.

never seen one like that before , but i would see if you can return it , even if it says no returns , dispute it as advertised as working and obviously isnt , looks like a diy rrod fix to me.

This looks like repair to stop board flexing. If advertised wrong send back or if it was cheap try and fix it.

nope but watched plenty of rrod vids.but nothing like this box with plates both sides of board.must have drilled holes in board to fit that small plate at dvd rom ports.

It depends on which way this has been repaired in past but i have had one like this before and used solder flux on board and heated around gpu and cpu let the flux get to work as it seems to be a cold solder joint. Although this looks overdone there could be life left in it. Make sure to take cables off when heating and remember arctic silver paste on cpu and gpu. When put back together leave fan disconnected for couple mins till 2 red lights come on. Switch off connect fan and leave till cooled down. Everything is for information only on how i fixed mine fiddle about at your own risk. electricity kills.

reading between the lines it looks like you and cunny are prompting me to remove heatsinks and stick a heat gun in xbox.wow, anyone know how long it will take a fire engine to travel 4 miles.

If your not confident don't try but it's broke anyway don't overdo with heat gun they get very hot. Everything in life is trial and error. Be safe.

found out about the 2 metal plates they are xtra heatsinks large one was attatched to bottom of board with 2 pads against gpu and cpu,the small plate was on top of chip with 360 on it.anyway thats board clean now, ready to hit with gun after paint some flux on chips.

well that will be that, gave it a makeover.got 2 reds then nothing.turned back on 3 reds and nothing else.did secondary again,4414,which means southbridge chip.that small plate in second picture, was a southbridge clamp.as i had taken it of,southbridge not working, put plate back on,still the same,so big green wheelie bin for this xbox.

cost me ?34 but keep 203w psu,20gb hdd, controller, will also keep power on board-heatsinks-dvd rom-fan & shroud, all will come in handy.prob cost more to buy separate.
