      I'm not deaf you know.

Me pc and is in the dining room and when the router comes that'll be in their too.
At the mo i have to rig up a long cable though double doors into the dining room and the modem, which is a bind.
What i'm asking is, is there any difference when playing online between wired and wireless?????

If there's no difference then i'll buy the 360 adaptor to get shut of the wire....if there is a difference then i'll stick with the cable.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

i can put it in simple terms for you pumpy mate.

The xbox talks to the tinternet via a protocol called TCP/IP
This works by chopping everything into small parts and wrapping them up into packets (like envelopes)

it phones ahead first to see if anyones home, that person says "aye rite im here" and then it sends the letter.

The letter gets there and the person opens it and reads its contents and then phones back "here you! wheres the next bit? ive only got half the story"

The original person sends the next one and so on.

This is essentialy how things happen over the wire.

Now wirelessly things get a little different, instead of just a plain old letter it sends one filled with gibberish that you need to use your special spiderman decoder ring to eventualy read.

So instead of plain letters you get to sit all day with your decoder ring working out a=d b=c c=j d=4 and so forth till youve worked out what the original letter says. then you phone for the next letter to get sent. For harder encryption presumably you need to read the giberish in a mirror first then start decoding, ill need to check my superhero manual for that one.

So you tell me which is faster?

over the wire you'll get up to 100mbps transfer rate (up to 100yds of wire away).
Wirelessly you'll get 54mbps maximum (this is the max the wifi adaptor will support) if your in line of site without stuff blocking, otherwise you'll get less plus you get a free decoder ring.
Spiderman costume is optional but id recomend it for some fun with the mrs later

Pumpeh, I shall make it even easier than chroma -

Using a cable will always be slightly faster but tbh you're not going to notice any difference. Just use whatever is more convenient.
I used to use a network cable but since I moved my xbox to another room I've had to switch to wireless. So far I've noticed no difference - I am still the best (read: I still suck).

is right! ive seen him in his spiderman suit, decoder ring and all.
Witnessed the full glory of him being royaly handed his ass from some little asian kid.
Regardless of what you do, online play will still get your ass kicked.

No expert here, although i do know my way round a PC, flashed a few XBOX's cable boxes blah de blah, i could never get my adapter to work and tried for about 6 months, been to every forum there is and had every piece of advice possible, ranging from Router to having to many devices WILL limit your online expeirience, saying that i did have two PC's and a laptop going, always ended up sticking with the wire and having to move router and modem to suit,ie my set up now is my sons XBOX is in his room along with his PC, i have the cable connection in his room connected to the modem, i have the router connected to the modem, i have his PC connected via ethernet to the router and his XBOX connected to router via ethernet, i then have my PC downstairs connected via USB wireless dongle, and my laptop connects via its own wireless connection to my router, BUT i also have the option to move all this around because i have a three way splitter for my cable connection in my sons room which leads to another 3 way splitter in my downstairs living room via cable, so yea i think theres a case for a wireless adapter if you can get it to work LOL, infact PM me and i'll let you have the adapter for small offer

My advice would be "draft N". Apple Time Capsule is quite good (if not the best...) as a router & network storage. And u can use network cables for some pieces e.g printers or desktop PCs to have less crowded "air" and to have less worries about security...

                      Thanks for all the advice....

So what we are saying here is that the hardwired way is always gonna be faster than the wireless way... BUT, according to Jazz you don't actually notice any difference.

So its probably all down to personal preference..ie,am I bothered about rigging the cable up. Think what i'll do is seen as i'm getting a router anyway i'll give the 360 a go with wireless and see what it feels like, then decide.

Youve got to have won the most complicated setup competition.

It depends on your wireless setup, we have 2 pcs wireless and the xbox wired and sometimes the wireless isn't working or is very slow, and the xbox is still fine.

I'm only going wireless because the young Pumpy's have been pestering me relentlessly for weeks.
Its mainly for their Wii, psp and ds.... but i thought i might as well try the 360 wireless too.
At the mo there's no need for the pc to be wireless because its in the dining room, so i'll keep that wired. Think we'll more than likely be getting a laptop too this year, so might as well try and set summat up now (wireless).

Well you hopefully will have better speed than us, we are 3 mb broadband and it can get really slow - that's ireland for you. I believe the packages are better in the uk.
