    samsung ms28 re-flash

    hi guys

    hoping someone can help here.
i've got a 360 with a sammy ms28 drive, tried flashing this drive before but encountered some problems, can't remeber exactly what the problems were but i did manage to get the orig FW from the drive but when i went to flash it faield for some reason or other. it must have been about 2 year ago when i did this and as i was moving hous at the time i just boxed up the 360 and it has been sitting in the loft till now.

Basically i'm wanting to flash this with the latest FW and was wondering what the best method to do it as, all the guides i've found seem to be just doing it from stock so i'm looking fo some help with doing it with the orig FW already extraxted.

Just for further info i have a VIA PCI card and Xecuter connectivity kit v2 if that would allow a flash to be done easier.

    any help much appreciated

Get yourself to the Jungleflasher website (google it), download Jungleflasher and their latest guide.

It'll tell you where to get the latest FW for the Sammy drive (xbins is your best bet) and just follow the tutorial from the part when it involves taking your key from your orig.bin and creating a custom FW.
    HTPC:
Antec Media Fusion / Windows 7 Media Centre /
    ASUS M4A78-VM 780G / AMD Athlon II x2 250 @ 3.2Ghz / 4.0gb GEIL Black Dragon /
    2x 1TB HDD.

    xbox360:
    120GB - Elite - Lite-on - iXtreme LTv1.1

    PS3
    40gb phat. 3.30fw.

    Nintendo Wii:

You might want to wait a little as ixtreme LT for samsung drives is around the corner, but the process is reasonably easy, just get latest jungleflasher and also have a read of the jungleflasher guide

        thanks for that lads

from what i'd read i was leaning towards using jungleflasher its just nice to get soem assurances as i haven't done this for a while.

cunny- i'm gonna flash tonight as i want to get it back up and working, what would you recommend as the best FW for the ms28's at the minute while i wait for LT?

was thinking of trying it online

are the chances of me being banned if using 1.61 quite high at the minute or is it pretty secure?

Not 100% on how secure 1.61 is, but it was detectable in the last ban wave. It is now advisable that you return any drive back to stock firmware before running any updates.

You take any flashed box online at your own risk tho. If you get flasgged for a ban, you may not be banned until the next ban wave that could be months away

I took the update in April with 1.6 on Benq and never got flagged. Also my cousin still uses the Boot disc on Liteon Drive and has done since November.

Its up to the individual how confident they feel.

well didn't get the chance to try and flash last night but should do tonight.
think i'll go with 1.61 and try maybe play it safe by not going online till LT is out.
then again i have been known to be impatient and will prob's end up online!

well i tried flashing tonight and i'm slowing going insane!

Couldn't pick the the drive with VIA PCI card at all.
I've used the internal port and followed JF guides methods of removing drivers and still no joy, even swapped the PCI card onto a different slot. its not showing up in my computer or JF interface.
I know the PCI card works with the drivers installed as it see's my 2nd HDD as soon as its plugged into it.

This led me back to the 360 drive, powered it up and connected to TV. This now showed up with an E65 error!!!
Is this the reason why i can't see the drive on the PCI card or should i still be seeing the drive on the PCI even though it has the E65??

Any help much appreciated as i feel like i'm gonna be off to the nutty farm soon!

E65: DVD Drive Error - Dvd drive is not DMA configured :Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc. This can also be caused by the tray not being fully closed on boot.

                      Does the drive still eject??

I doubt it will, sounds like u erased the flash, without a copy of the key then u might need to see about a jtag to retrieve its off the nand.

You wont see the drive in jungleflasher due to it being erased. Put it back in the port u used, select it, device intro and u should see it under vendor mode of 0x70

if i've got the 360 connected up as a console then yeah the drawer does eject, but if i have the SATA port of the 360 drive plugged into my PCI card then no it does not eject.

I have the ORIG.BIN dump from the drive from 2 years ago and i've just checked it with Maximus tool and its ok.

In you last paragraph you state put it back into the port i used and select it, by this do u mean select it in my computer? i can't do this as it never recognises the drive when i've plugged it into PCI card yet.
Or did you mean me to do something different???

                        cheers cunny

on your pci card. Connect the drive via sata to the middle port. Then, you will need to device intro in jungleflasher and follow the instructions on screen (will ask you to power cycle the drive) once you have the drive back into vendor mode (you might need to check all 4 ports to do this) load your orig.bin into source and create ur custom firmware. Back to mtk and flash the drive. Providing your orig.bin was the right 1 and flashes ok, everything should be fine after, again only do flash the drive if your 100% certain on the orig.bin.

Alternitaly, i uploaded a dos method to do this onto here a while back. Think it was called how to recover your xbox drive or something.

                          Best of luck to you

                            cunny,

its 100% defo the correct orig.bin i have

from the method you are suggesting above are you saying that i should try and use the device into function on jungle flasher even if my drive is not recognised when its connected (i couldn't get it to connect from any of the sata ports on the PCI)?
I'm at work at the minute so can't physically try it but i didn't think JF would let u do anything if no drive was found?

Sorry if i'm stating obvious things here but its the 1st time i've used JF and i just find it strange that sata PCI wasn't picking the drive up on any port and i'm stuck in my own head if it was the PCI card or the E65 error on the drive!

Also i found your post with your DOS guide but it just takes me to a blank page when i try to DL the attachment?!?

                            Thanks for all your help

O, when the forum went down a while back, some attatchments were lost, this must have been over looked by myself.

The reason its not showing up in jungleflasher is that there is no wway to recognoze the drive. This is why you will need to device intro the drive on each port, it will show up.

With the VIA drivers removed and the drive hooked up by ck3 do the following:

Under Mtk tab Tick VIA ports only.
Now under the drop down menu at io ports. Select the top port.
Now click the intro/device id button, a pop up warning will come up, saying power off then on the drive within 1 second. do as so.
If no drive is found, move onto the next io port and try again.

I will also re-up the other dos guide now if i can find it.
