Its what type of burner you have. If its ~~~~ed or not. And never mind this crap about burn at 2.4x etc burn at the fastest. Never fails for me.
cg the advice on this forum is always to use verbatims especially if you are having problems with burning. its always been that way as long as ive been a member.

Its personal preference. I have had no probs with any media in BENQ or liteon drives. Hitachi's and samsungs can be fussy but i put that down to old age (of the drives that is).

Ok then another thread about blank media

Verbs are the best, but more expensive (?25 per 25 discs)

Aonnes are good, but as stated work best with newer drives (mixed results on older drives, sammy and hitachis) but also these can wear out the laser quicker, so if your going to use cheaper media then i would recomend copying the game to the hdd before playing, this in turn will help the laser, but also help with the noise of the drive.

I use Aone Plus disks from eBuyer and burn at 4x (have sussessfully burned at 8x as well). I have an old samsung drive, but never any problems. I have a NEC burner.

Indeed it is down to presonal preferrence, but cheaper media will burn the laser out much quicker. But all media will burn the laser out eventually. Even when using originals!

TBH you can get a replacement drive for ?25, so I just replace mine when they are screwed. I also install all my games to the hdd to play, so it stresses the laser much less.
