if he has virgin media then he would be better off using the free vm newsgroup servers and grabbit. nzb matrix will give him the newest game releases for xbox360

Dont use the VM servers. Get a SSL server elsewhere.

A mate of mine recently got fined for downloading movies using those. If you use an SSL server, they cant see what youre downloading even if they wanted to.

been doing it this way for 3 years now no worries. Then again im not constantly downloading maybe only one a week if that. Maybe i dont draw attention to myself as a result.

Well your mate is talking balls. Did they specifically say they caught him on the VM newsgroups downloading? Also how much prey tell did he get fined?

Although as others have said its not worth using them, as there is only 5 days retention. Your better off with megaupload or megashare than rapidshare as they get taken down too quick. Or pay for astraweb or something like that.

Well hes not talking balls because I personally saw the fine.
The chance of being fined is extremely low, but it does happen.

The fine was for ?600 and there was a huge list of downloads on there. Not so many games but mainly albums and movies.

He was using P2P on very rare occasions for singles, but the newsgroup downloads were also listed.

Astraweb I'd recommend. SSL, constantly good speeds, good retention, very cheap, definitely worth the investment.

Not every single person gets done for it, you just have to be one of the very unlucky ones. Believe what you want, I was just giving some advice - I have no reason to chat rubbish. I am speaking from first hand experience, whereas he is purely speculating.

There are loads of people who deal crack and not everyone gets caught, that doesnt mean there isnt a chance of each of them getting found out eventually and having to face consequences.

He's not "out", he is still on VM.

Maybe it wasnt the Newsgroup servers that got him caught out, but the P2P, however the newsgroup downloads were listed on there.

Again, believe what you want.

I've used vm servers to get nzb's for about 3 years, never had any letters or warnings, and they are as fast as your connection will allow, takes a bit of getting used to, it's not as easy as torrents but way way better once you get the hang of things,
I'm not going to tell you how to do it (thats what google's for) but usenet is totaly different to torrents, you aren't fileshareing for a start, you are just downloading, it's still a bit under the radar from the anti fileshareing / p2p mob, but they have started taking an interest, so let them go after the people using torrents and keep usenet alive.
