I have been using usenet for years. Before we had NZB files, we had to manually download 'headers' to get what you wanted, those took hours to do, then a 4.5gb on a 1mb connection.

I recently got 50mb installed, and while on the phone the guy quoted i had downloaded quite allot of data. But could not see what, thanks to SSL.

If your using Virgins servers, they will be able to tell what your downloading, they dont have any kind of encryption on their newsgroup servers. I really suggest paying for a premium server, like astraweb or giganews with the SSL encryption

The chance of being fined is extremely low, but it does happen.

The fine was for ?600 and there was a huge list of downloads on there. Not so many games but mainly albums and movies.

He was using P2P on very rare occasions for singles, but the newsgroup downloads were also listed.

Astraweb I'd recommend. SSL, constantly good speeds, good retention, very cheap, definitely worth the investment.
Well you story has changed slightly now. He may well of been fined for downloading music and videos, but highly unlikely it was only ?600. How many infractions did they say he had? As its normally a lot higher than ?600.

P2P is a sure fire way of getting caught for downloading, and this is probably where he got flagged, they just then followed his ip wherever he went.

Also the RIAA would of needed to get the info direct from the ISP, the ISP would not of just flagged him for downloading, you would simply be traffic shaped. So its nothing to do with the VM news servers, and more than likely a P2P infaction that has been flagged, was he using TPB for his occasional single download by any chance?

And a low post count has nothing to do with talking crap. I would call you out if you had 10000 posts too.

ive got a flashed xbox and i find that instead of downloading games its easier to buy backup copys for ?2.50 that have already been stealth patch and usually turns up in the post 2 days later.

Yeah I use xboxflashing.com on occasion - theyre the only backup sellers online that use verbatim discs and not a load of cheap crap that ruins your xbox. They also sway massively on the prices taht are listed on the site if you conact them through the live help thing or by email.

Ive tried them, they give you cheap crap discs though, which eventually killed my drive

Two times I waited 5 days for my games to be delivered - that was the last time I used that site. Plus my copy of Batman Arkham Asylum & Borderlands didnt work from them, and also didnt containt SSv2 or SplitVid when I decided to check 1 month down the line. They said I could switch it but I couldnt be arsed, waited 3-4 days for them to be not patched properly on cheap crap which makes that harsh grinding sound when loading. Id stay well clear if youre planning on either playing online or planning on using your xbox for a long time.

With xboxflashing.com you get verbs within a max of 2 days at your doorstep, properly stealthed for LT and theres a Live Chat system which keeps you informed if you have any questions - much more professional. You can get all the updates from their facebook announcements as soon as games are released.
