Future proof as in what way? The max HDD size is 250gb The firmware is dumpable from 2 of the 3 current DVD drives for future flashing, there is no current firmware nor is there any other hack

        no.

Newer units are not Jtaggable so running homebrew is an impossibility at this point.

                  Have a read here

There are NO CURRENT MODS FOR THE SLIM. The firmware for the drive is in development with no public ETA

The PS3 security is a joke though, always has been, if you look at it carefully it only actually took a few months to break the ps3 wide open.No one was really bothered because Linux already ran on the system so people could fool around with the architecture, the moment sony closed that off the system was breached.

The difference between the two is that the Xbox hypervisor isn't passive whereas the ps3's is, it actively scans code on regular intervals whereas sonys just scans at the initialisation and can be easily spoofed with a simple stack overflow or buffer overrun.

The keys on microsofts encryption are far harder than sonys Random_number * elliptical_curve_parametric. simply because microsoft implemented an actual random number thas generated at runtime.

Then theres the completely differing hardware, an update on microsofts platform burns out eFuses insude the processor meaning that end users cant donwgrade to previous kernel's sonys has no such drawback, you spoof the hypervisor and L2 cache singing and voila your able to install any firmware you want.

Put simply coders have been trying to circumvent microsofts system since release theres been no real success bar a narrow window of opportunity that quickly got boarded over. sonys system had only actively been a target for a few months and there's been significant headway, with the new AsbestOS due out thins will really make a giant leap forward.

Theres nothing planned for xbox because anything past june 2009 has had its processor irrevocably fried to prevent dumping of the proprietary hardware keys necessary to patch a custom flash.

You can still flash the chips, but without being able to edit the keys to allow the hardware to operate it becomes moot.

Does the new 250gig glossy come as the the same as the 4 gig, i.e you can put another harddrive in. If so I'm gonna order one tonight..

so does that mean that its better to get a ps3 for modding purposes than an xbox?

I have a ps3, u need a USB dongle to crack it. If u use a external drive for game storage the drive has to be fat32 which can only support files under 4gig
