once you've finished your d'load,,
you can double click on quickpar,
it will search through your download,
see if any blocks are missing or damaged,
if its missing it will automatically download it and if its damaged it will download a replacement,
its a must have for newsgoups imo!

QuickPar - Download

heres a quickpar guide
Newsgroups PAR/PAR2 Files

basically after you downloaded your nzb,
locate the folder whereever you've downloaded it,
double click on any of the quickpar files,
you'll be able to tell which ones are quickpar files cause of the logo next to it,
just click on autorepair,
like i mentioned it will automatically search through,
and repair anything if necessary,
let the program do the hard work for you!

What are the specs of these servers? I.e. Retention, # of connections, etc.

Virgin newsgroup is free has a 30 day retention and over 30 connections. It has excellent completion and I can comfortably max out my 20 meg connection it takes around 10 mins for a 700mb file

i thought it was like only 7 days retention

As far as im led to believe it is still 7 day retention. Check by trying something over 7 days.

Funny that tried getting fifa 12 after 8 days up but it came down in the smallest pieces ive seen for a long time. Will have a look again tommorow.
